One day home from the hospital with Alison’s first

cast and she’s now had her first blow out…..

This wasn’t the spill over the diaper a little kind of

blowout, this was the up-the-back, take-the-shirt-off, poop-gets-in-the-hair,

go-straight-to-the-tub kind of blow out! But, since we can’t

go straight to the tub with a cast, we just did our best. I pulled the

stretchy shirt out as much as I could without choking the poor thing, and while

dad held her over the sink, I washed and dried the shirt and then let it go

back up in. Then I pulled it back out and it was poopy again. Then

I realized that we had poop on the inside of the cast as well as the shirt so I

did my best at wiping off the inside of the cast with a wipe and then blow

drying it out….UGH! I thought that I was doing everything right, I

was changing the diaper every two hours, the front and back of the diaper were

folded in and tucked up inside the cast as far as I could get them, and she had

a pad in the diaper for more absorbency. I think that the timing was just

bad as she was in her doorway jumper when it happened and so it didn’t have

anywhere to go but up. I guess that since she only poops once a day that

I’ll just make sure she’s not sitting in anything like that (jumper

or excersaucer) until she’s pooped for the day. I asked about the

gortex liners that we’ve been discussing and Dr. D said that they don’t

use them….Maybe I’ll insist for next time… So…do

any of you have any tips on getting the smell to go away?????

Any real life tips would be greatly appreciated. I’ve

read the diapering tips on the website and will reread them in a minute.

It was fun to meet Abigail and Nadia and and Kylie

while we were there. Hope to meet more of you in the future.

& Alison
