Guest guest
Paige, The nerve conduction velocity test and EMG hurt me. I was 15 when I had my first one. More recently in '99, I had the test again (as an adult) and it still hurt. It is possible to take a mild sedative before hand, it will not affect the test results, but will help more with the anxiety and hurt (Dr. Younger at NYU - CMT explained this to me) Ask your doctor if this might help your son endure the test. The test can only distinguish between Type 1 and Type 2. It cannot tell you the different genetic substypes - like A,B,C,D,E. etc. ~ Gretchen
