Guest guest
thanks. skin is a lot lot better now. crack that was slightly bleeding healed. twice a day i had it cleaned with a wipe, then dried with a hairdryer, lightly dusted with cornstarch, using hair dryer again to blow away excess cornstarch, then a sterile dressing was slipped it to keep skin apart. must now try to be disciplined enough to clean it daily and slip in a 100% cotton handkerchief. will look into english equivalent of the cream you suggest for the future. cheers linda RE:Skin breakdown Our son has had several breaks in the skin where it folds over. We have had good luck using Neosporin (not sure about the spelling) ointment. It comes in a white cream or a petroleum base...very small tube but a little goes a long way. Hope this info is helpful, but I realize the same thing doesn't work for everyone. --------------------------------- FareChase - Search multiple travel sites in one click. Guest guest
Ok, So I’m supposed to be watching for skin breakdown around the cast, I think I may have found some. At the hospital, I noticed that part of the cast in front of the armpit seemed to be pushed in more than it should have been. I asked about it and they said that it should be fine. Well now it’s red and getting raw and the skin is peeling almost like a sunburn. Is this skin breakdown? If it is, what will Shriners say to do about it? We are only at 2 months now and aren’t scheduled until July 24th for the next cast. Any thoughts? Ps: I’m including some pics of her cast decorated. Since these pictures were taken, we’ve cut off the turtle neck and taped the sleeves to the cast because of the heat and air flow needs. Guest guest
I remember that happened to Cole the first cast, but we never really did anything about it. It never got totally raw though. I remember the peeling, but eventuallu it went away and the skin just got tougher. I know, I'm not a big help. What a great/cute cast decor. It is perfect. Looks like a professional did it. How did you get her to be still for that? And, LOVE the red hair....too die for! Take care./Cole <urbanmattandrea@...> wrote: Ok, So I’m supposed to be watching for skin breakdown around the cast, I think I may have found some. Guest guest
Thanks for the compliments on the cast and the hair, I can only take credit for the cast. She was very patient with me for the glueing but I had to wait until she was sleeping to do the mod podge, It took 2 days to get the whole cast mod podged, I just did a portion at each nap and at bedtime. After she went to sleep, I’d position her so that the part I needed to reach was accessible and then I’d wedge her in that position so she couldn’t turn over. She couldn’t roll over in the cast at that point anyway so she stayed pretty still. It’s been nice to be able to wipe off the cast. For the base layer I used strips of fabric and then I put on the fabric cutouts on top of that. BTW it matches her cribset <grin> From: infantile scoliosis treatment [mailto:infantile scoliosis treatment ] On Behalf Of Baird Sent: Monday, May 22, 2006 5:58 PM infantile scoliosis treatment Subject: Re: skin breakdown I remember that happened to Cole the first cast, but we never really did anything about it.
