Guest guest
At my gym the swimming pool that we use for aqua aerobics is a normal swimming pool. I think it has the same end result as Gretchen, although probably not as nice in getting there. For working with a current, the class runs in one direction clockwise, doing some jumps and things, and then the teacher reverses the direction and we do the same running - but it sure is hard! The class is like doing normal aerobics, no equipment needed although sometimes the pool can give people " blisters " or sensitive spots on their feet so some people wear pools shoes. You don't even need an instructor really, running in place, jumping jacks, leg lifts, floating - all of the normal land based things can be done in a pool and the fact that there is water resistance works on the muscles, and the buoyancy makes the core muscles work. I highly recommend pool based exercise for building core strength and balance - not to mention weight loss too as it was a part of what I did to slim and get fit before I got married and I was in wonderful shape then! - Donna from London
