Another Brace: Walk-On AFO

Hello Everyone:

Just wanted to let you all know that I am trying another type of

AFO. I have had the Toe-Off for about 6 months and have been really

pleased with them, except that they keep cracking at the stem where

it rests against the outside of the foot. Which ultimately results

in the brace not picking my foot up far enough. Well, after a fall

in the hallway (which really really hurt!) I decided to get back

over to my orthotist and see what else he could suggest.

This time he gave me a brace called a Walk-On. It is exactly like the Toe-off

except that the stem (or piece that comes up your leg) goes up the back and

there is only one strap around my calf. He said it is a

little sturdier and he usually puts his patients that are on their

feet alot in this one. So far I really like it. It seems to lift

my foot better and it is more comfortable going up the back and just

having one strap around my leg. Especially in the summertime when I

tend to have a little swelling in my ankles. The Toe-off would

press into my flesh by the end of the day.

Anyway, just an FYI if anyone is looking for a new type of AFO.

,

I have been wearin the Toe-Off and mine just broke, also. I just took a look at

the Walk-On. I really like the way it looks, much esss " intrusive looking " .

Have you found that it is helping your drop foot better than the Toe-Off?

Do you still feel the push-off that the Toe-Off gives? I did notice that I went

from the standard AFO to the Toe-Off, but do not notice that anymore.
