Guest guest
Oh that's too bad! Strange the effect over different material? Guess the time it takes for plaster to dry really does allow for better manipulation/correction. Did you ask if there was a possibility that would have happend anyway? Well hopefully it won't again if you just stick with plaster. This is his 3rd one correct? Or 4rth is it? Well Madison went through that total of only 6 and is corrected now.. so just think of the light @ the end & look at it as being atleast half way there if not more! How did Ian do? Does he pretty much know what's going there now? Does he have a phobia of the Dr.'s or is he pretty easy to go through it all after having done it a few times? Just curious! Too bad we missed eachother, what are your new dates on schedule? Glad to hear your back safe & the rotation has improved so much.. Dr. did tell me that the RVAD is not neccessarily a # that means much in terms of correction but it's more the visible rotation that gets improved that only they can judge by eye. Anyway, I still like to hear that # being zero because to me that's normal! Take care! =) ~Joy > > Well, the first thing Doctor K said when he saw Ian's back was that he could see a rib hump. Guest guest
Just a quick question for anyone- I understand how the Dr's want to "perfect" the casting process and try to be innovative, but WHY try all these other types of casts, if it's proven that the POP ones are the most effective? Also, my husband and I were talking and if someone doesn't mind to help me remember, I know Mehta treated over 100 children with scoli w/the cast and they were corrected, but: 1. How long was this study followed- to their adulthood? 2. How long did they have to wear the brace? 3. How many weren't corrected with the POP cast? Thanks so much. Guest guest
Hey - I kept checking, hoping you'd post today w/Ian's results. I"m really sorry that his rib hump is back and the number's weren't as good as you'd hoped. I just read your email to my husband and we'd been talking about all this tonight over dinner- I hope that this cast will get the numbers back down. Guest guest
Jenn, Sorry to hear about the thumbs down on waterproof. Good news is that it was only very slightly worse. I'm sure that the plaster one will get Ian back correcting. Because it's every two months, the time lost was not much. Great news on the RVAD, sounds like getting the Cobb down is the final step. Growth will help that. Take care, Jerry thumbs down on the waterproof/fiberglass cast Well, the first thing Doctor K said when he saw Ian's back was that he could see a rib hump. Guest guest
, I really think it was the fiberglass...it got soooo loose on him. It definitely made a big difference in Ian's progress. I am convinced that we will see some better numbers with this new plaster cast . Guest guest
Thanks Jerry. I really don't regret trying the fiberglass...I am glad they actually are open to trying different things...unfortunately it just didn't pan out the way we would have liked. I am optimistic that this next cast will be better. Guest guest
,Sorry to hear the waterproof cast wasn't a hit. But wow, RVAD 2, that is great! I/m surprise you could see the hump with that low of an RVAD. Isn't the rotation what actually causes the hump? How did Ian do this time with the whole procedure? When is your next casting date? We'll be going this week. I'll be interested to see what Dr. Kishan will want to do now that Ian's results are in. The plan was to do waterproof this time, but we'll see now. I am more interested to see how well this cast actually held since it was so loose to begin with. Two months later and lots of growth, and it is still slightly loose! Oh-well. Trial and error. I just know in a year from now (I'm sure much less) our boys will be done with casting and into a brace. It is all worth it compared to the alternative. Take care. Keep us updated with how Ian is doing in this cast,/Cole Claflin <noellesmommy@...> wrote: Well, the first thing Doctor K said when he saw Ian's back was that he could see a rib hump. Guest guest
RVAD down to 2! Excellent!! Fiberglass cannot mold to the childs body like plaster. Plaster conforms to the body better, and can breathe a little.....Fiberglass is too rigid to conform or breathe with the childs body. Great news Jen! Did you get the article I sent to you yesterday? talk soon, HRH thumbs down on the waterproof/fiberglass cast Well, the first thing Doctor K said when he saw Ian's back was that he could see a rib hump. Guest guest
Well, he still has rotation. Dr. K showed it to me on the films although we did not discuss the actual degree. His original rotation was 45 degrees...it's definitely improved, but I do not have numbers unfortunately. We are supposed to go back July 5th and 6th, but my husband is balking at going up there over the holiday. I think we will try to get those dates changed. I will be anxious to hear what they do with Cole in terms of the waterproof cast. I am looking forward to your update!
