Misty vanilla extract is water based and doesn't mix well with the oil FO's

or EO's, plus doesn't it have alcohol in it? There are a lot of suppliers,

most I've found carry vanilla fragrances. A pretty wide range of vanilla's.

Vanilla bean, vanilla lace, etc etc. I think you'd be more pleased with

their outcome in your products than the extract we use for cooking.

Check out the link on the bottom here for the toiletries library and do the

easy search for oils. Lots of suppliers. :) Good luck!

Misty, I read a note someone posted earlier that you could buy vanilla beans

and make your own oil. That might be worth a shot too.

I don't at this point, BUT I've planned to add a sea salt scrub with sage in

it to the product line I have started in honor of my mom.

Does anyone have any recipes containing eo and herbs? I am asking because I

have a jar of bath salts from b & bw that has pieces of sage in it. I smells

wonderful.

Thanks for the help

Hi Fiona,

Vanilla extract is solvent extracted - and then the solvent is removed.

There is no other way to get the " smell " out

Re: recipes using herbs

Hi :

I posted this previously on another list. Bath and Body Work's

" Aromatherapy " line is an excellent example of marketing and packaging

genius. Made to look like the old " apothecary " style jars (Boston Rounds, I

believe they are called) with the anique-looking labels.

The Bath Salts are what intrigued me the most...a simple mixture of sea salt

crystals, silica, dried botanicals like orange peel and lavender blossoms

and the e.o. blends....simple and yet elegant:

Awake Line:

Grapefruit and Peppermint

grapefruit e.o.

peppermint e.o.

mandarin orange (tangerine) e.o.

spearmint e.o.

Add dried grapefruit peel and peppermint leaves

Orange and Ginger

orange e.o.

ginger e.o.

coriander e.o.

spearmint e.o.

Add dried orange peel and ginger root

Bergamot and Coriander

coriander e.o.

bergamot e.o.

lemon e.o.

orange e.o.

Add dried coriander seeds and lemon peel

Relax Line:

Eucalyptus and Spearmint

eucalyptus e.o.

spearmint e.o.

peppermint e.o.

orange e.o.

Add dried eucalyptus and spearmint leaves

Cedarwood and Sage

clary sage e.o.

cedarwood e.o.

sandalwood e.o.

lavender e.o.

Add dried sage leaves and cedarwood shavings

Blue Lavender and Palmarosa

lavender e.o.

palmarosa e.o.

rosemary e.o.

basil e.o.

Add dried lavender and rosemary

Sleep Line:

Lavender and Vanilla

lavender e.o.

vanilla absolute

rosemary e.o.

clary sage e.o.

Add dried lavender buds

Sweet Bay and Rose

bay (laurel) e.o.

rose e.o.

cardamom e.o.

ginger e.o.

Add dried bay leaves and rose petals

Chamomile and Neroli

chamomile (anthemis) e.o.

neroli e.o.

patchouli e.o.

sandalwood e.o.

Add dried chamomile and orange flowers

There are also extracts of balm mint, etc., but they didn't seem to

contribute to the actual fragrance.
