Guest guest
Ok, I'm sitting here crying- That is such good news and WOW what a difference in the before and after x-rays! To be completely honest, I've had TONS of support from other wonderful moms, but when you e-mailed me several times when we first found out about my son Evan's scoli and we were debating what to do- I felt a connection b/c our childrens ages were so close. I'm so happy for you that you've seen such an improvement- Good luck with the brace and enjoy the time with her w/o the cast! and Evandalerocks08 <dalerocks08@...> wrote: After 6 months in casts, today they removed Evanlee's 3rd cast. Guest guest
Thanks. It's really funny how it seems to be a chain reaction amongst all of us. When we started I found this site and would have gone crazy without this group and all the information everyone gave me. Now I feel like I have a little experience and story I can pass on to newbies. I am more than happy to share any information I have learned or experienced to help others here, we are all in the same boat. I have to share a chuckle from this morning's visit though.... When the doctor checked her and said yes it is getting too tight, we will have to see when the brace will be ready (of course I was already on top of that) I told him I called yesterday and it will be ready Thursday. He said well are they cutting the cast off or are we. I said they didn't tell me that, however my husband sent me with this message....and then the doctor interrupted me and said I know if we don't take it off today he will do it himself (he was right on, word for word). We all laughed because they already know my husband's sense of humor and how protective he is over his girl. He is always telling them when the cast gets too tight it is coming off one way or the other. Since my husband darn near cut his finger off sawing out my son's pinewood derby car, you can only imagine the relief I had when the doctor said they would go ahead and do it. LOL!!! Guest guest
First off CONGRATS! I am amazed of such success in that short of time span. I am curious as we are only a few hours from Cincinnatti if that is Cincinnatti Ohio. If so, do they do the serial plaster casting? Hopefully, we will obtain custody of my soon to be step son who has a 57.6 degree curve in which has been diagnosed as Idiopathic. Of course we are willing to make the six hour drive to Erie, but if Cincinnatti does the same technique that would be closer. Congrats again and do enjoy those cast free days! Guest guest
Yes it is Cincinnati Ohio. And yes they do the serial casting. My dd started at 4months old and they switched it every 2 months. I have no experience of those at Erie (however as you read daily, they are awesome too) but I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Cincinnati Children's either. They have been great to us through everything. My dd's curve started at around 38 and now is almost 0. It's just a matter of her flexibility as to whether it will hold or not. You may want to contact them (or Erie, whichever place you decide to go) and see if they would review his medical records ahead of time. Maybe they could write something for you as to their suggestions for his treatment needs prior to court based on review of his medical records. Good luck to ya, I was thinking a couple of weeks of ago about you I hadn't seen any posts from you and was curious as to whether or not you had been to court yet. Our prayers are with you and your family and hopefully the courts will do what is right and needed. (Evanlee & is 10 months)Jaqz <buckijackie@...> wrote: First off CONGRATS! Guest guest
Goodness, didn't she just have surgery? How often does she have to have it done? I would love to meet up with you. My son has an appt. that afternoon but maybe we can try an evening visit. Would be up to it? How long does it usually take her to feel up to visitors? We will definetely pray for her. Guest guest
Oh you just made our morning. I will take your advice and give them a call today. A two hour drive sounds easier than a six hour drive. Thanks for your prayers, we surely need them. It is very difficult having to wait so long for court. Our little man Jessie's curve has stayed at 57 degrees but I know he will be reaching another growth splurt soon. We just pray his mother is putting on his TLSO brace. His medical records did state his curve is flexable. Sure wish we was able to have talked Jessie's mother to look into the serial casting when Jessie's curve was 35 degrees. I do take time to post now. I believe we have all we need gathered for court which frees up some time for me. I have missed the support here. I tend to get depressed not being able to do much for Jessie. Hopefully that will all change next month. Thanks again! Jackie~Jim & Abercrombie <dalerocks08@...> wrote: Yes it is Cincinnati Ohio. The last couple of days she has developed sores at the top of her tush where the cast has gotten so tight it actually was pinching and rubbing her tush. They did an x-ray and she is practically straight. They were hoping to get one more month in this cast and then put her in a brace for the summer, but she apparantely had a growth spurt. Her brace won't be ready till Thursday, so we get 2 whole days of holding, cuddeling and bathing her. God it feels so goood. It was like holding her for the first time all over again. The will see how she does in the brace and how well it holds her and in the winter put her in one more cast. I guess if the brace holds her pretty well this summer she will go back into a brace again after the winter cast. All love, gratitude and appreciation goes out to the wonderful staff at Cincinnati Children's Hospital. They are awesome.I came home and stripped her down and told her she could get as messy as she wanted at lunch because she could now soak in a tub afterward. She did succeed at the mess, however by the time I got her tub filled, got the video camera ready she fell asleep in her chair. I am attaching her before x-rays and todays x-rays. So those out there just beginning this journey, there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Best wishes to all the families and thank you to everyone for all the information. I will keep updating how she does in the brace and keep your fingers crossed for her. (Evanlee & is 10 months) Messenger with Voice. PC-to-Phone calls for ridiculously low rates.
