I also was advised against surgery but instead had a corticosteroid injection in the ac joint and laid off all type of upper body training. Now after 4 and a half months I am going back to the physio to get a referral for a orthopaedic surgeon. I have experienced no improvement in shoulder pain with it still being difficult to sleep at night. I can't train any kind of pushing or overhead exercise and struggle with chin ups at times. I found an article on osteolysis which was quite helpful and have decided to bite the bullet and get it operated on. Hopefully will have a physio appointment this week. Hope this has been some help.
