No, it's definitely not Gortex. After seeing it in the video, I want it, lol! Maybe when Shriners sees yours, they will be willing to make the investment. But, I can't beat free medical treatment, so if they deem it too expensive I will understand. I wonder exactly how much it costs and if they would let me buy some for his next cast???? Hmmmm.

Once her leg is free, I will bet you that she'll do so many more things. I am excited for her to have a torso only cast. I think it will be easier for all of you.

Is it rather smooth & kind of plastic type feeling like you can wipe it down easily? And when you feel it to touch is it a padded/cusion feeling? If so than that's cool/great! I wouldn't care about the brand, just the aspects I like about it, the comfortable cusionyness (like my made up word =P) & water resistance. So yey! I can't wait!!And I'm so stoked for you & Ian, I bet it's so great to see him so mobile & being able to do things more normally!! I can't wait for that either, just for her to go down a slide! (sit for that matter Our dinner routine is all messed up now since she's had her cast on we all sit around the coffee table for dinner so she can stand or kneel to eat with us, my toddler never wants to sit @ our actual dinner table now even for lunches b/c she wants to be able to eat with & include baby And she has to stand or kneel in her baths but it works fine, I just use a little water in there & mostly spray her down when I need to rinse her... then let her run around a bit after she gets out to dry out. Yeah, they do kind of emphasize the difference in that vs. regular

synthetic padding in the video huh? Well I only sent an e-mail to

Dr. Sander's asst. Jane who isn't the office today & I haven't

heard back from them yet. I would understand too about them not

using more expensive material you know. So I just went ahead and

ordered the largest sized order of it... It was only $53.00! And I'm

sure will get her through atleast 1 casting if not more! So I'm

just gong to bring it out there w/us anyway to compare to what they

have.. maybe what they have is a generic kind you know & it's

similar, but if not then I don't have any problem bringing it out

every time! =) If there's more than enough I wouldn't mind leaving

what's left there for them to use too you know (can tell them to put

it on hold for you I don't think I've even been more excited &

anticipative of anything.. pretty sad huh?! lol, j/k.

Oh, I just re-read this and saw your question about ordering it...

YEAH, they do!! =) There's an order section on their site, like I

said, the largest order was only $53, w/not tax & they absorb

shipping.. pretty good deal I thought. The padding/comfort aspect

is great I think, and what I like about that too, like I said, is

that with as cusiony as it is, they leave like maybe 1/2 inch to an

inche out of the cast so you can stick the moleskin to it & the can

wrap that 1/2 inch- 1 inch whatever padding OVER the cast so the

edge are virtually non existant you know, no sharpness what so ever

cuz it's padded & then protected w/the moleskin (and like I said I

put the wanter proof tape over all of that too so I did have to be

ripping the moleskin off the the cast as padding every time is gets

wet, the tape just keeps the water out/off of the moleskin)

Well, I spoke w/ Jane today & she said gortex is what they're

using w/the fiberglass & they have some there. So I'm just going to

bring it anyway & leave it for them if it's the same.. I'd like to

compare it too if possible.. we'll see & I'll let you know for

sure. I'm concerned now with her not getting in a fiberglass wrap,

Dr. Sander's said they're still experimenting w/it on select

patients (meaning you I guess maybe others I guess too. But he

has her x-rays & I requested we be a select patient for the

experiement too b/c it makes more sense to me all around for our

daughter's sake & I'm waiting to hear back from him. I really hope

he agrees, I don't see any down sides to it.

I think they are picking people from warmer climates to try it with...but, also kids whose curves are really improving. I think They were willing to try it with Ian because he is down to 15 degrees out of cast. I got the feeling that if he wasn't doing that well that they would not have tried it.

When are you going up there again? Maybe they do use Gortex AND this other stocking net to keep the gortex in the cast? I dunno...I guess you will know for sure when you go up there. I will be anxious to hear what the differences are between your cast materials and the ones they used on Ian.

Yeah, well I actually think my e-mail was a little confusing because

I got a response saying they're experimenting w/it but have been

using the plaster w/fiberglass up until now. I don't think I was

clear enough on which I was " for " or that I wanted her in fiberglass

too. So I SW MJ a little more about it & she said that she's sure

if that's what I wanted & was " willing " to that he'd most likely be

happy to try it because they are in fact looking for

results/feedback w/it. I think he just wasn't clear on the fact that

I do want it used on her, and being that she is a new patient to

them he probably didn't want to " guinea " us But she said she'll

talk to him & let me know but they'd most likely be willing to

accomodate the request & allow us to " trial " for them too.. so we'll

see! =)

Hey michelle! its anna (adison's mommy) i had a great time gettting to

meet you and cole! he is such a cutie! luckly we were able to leave

shortly after you! i was so happy...lets just hope that we dont have to

drive back tomorrow:) but adison has done wonderful i am so proud...he

has been in such a good mood all day. Our next appt. in erie is the 23rd

Yeah, I think Ian's second cast was plaster and fiberglass. The plain fiberglass is definitely a lot thinner for sure. Good luck with everything.

Yeah, well I actually think my e-mail was a little confusing because I got a response saying they're experimenting w/it but have been using the plaster w/fiberglass up until now. I don't think I was clear enough on which I was "for" or that I wanted her in fiberglass too. So I SW MJ a little more about it & she said that she's sure if that's what I wanted & was "willing" to that he'd most likely be happy to try it because they are in fact looking for results/feedback w/it.
