Hello Everybody,

Do you know if I can use 100% aloe vera gel to replace 100% of the water in

hand lotion? Soap? If not, how much? I made some lotion replacing 100% of

the water with aloe vera and it separated. However, this was my first lotion

and I made up the recipe. :-) So, obviously a whole lot could have gone

wrong to cause the separation. Thanks.

Send us your recipe and then it will be easier to tell you what went wrong.

You might be able to fix it.

Hi Sage,

Just recently I made a creme & I substituted the water for aloe vera gel. I

don't know if it was the gel or what but the creme has a very very sticky waxy

feel. I don't like it at all, but it may not have been the gel's fault. Next

time I will use aloe vera juice.

Cheers Jane

Jane,

Aloe from the plant itself, when broken leaf is used, the stuff inside is

icky sticky slimy..Maybe you just used too much maybe? I wonder if using

less aloe would solve the mystery and make your cream not so " sticky " ? Would

half water, half aloe work? It is wonderful stuff, but all I've seen is

sticky....the juice, as you said, might work better? All the question marks

'cause I just don't know..all I have is a guess. sorry...

I haven't make a cream with it yet, but plan to soon...let us know if you

try another batch and what you do different and how it turns out.

Good luck!

Sage,

I have made lotion and replaced the water with Aloe Vera Juice with no

problem..I have not done that with the gel though so I am not sure about how

that works. I LOVE using the juice though...it makes a nice lotion...

It was my first attempt at lotion and I used all sorts of expensive and/or

exotic oils like carrot seed (sure does stink), borage seed, black current,

hazlenut, kukui and such. I made up the recipe using the guideline

proportions I found online. I was looking for the recipe to post for

suggestions, but I must have tossed it out in disgust. :-) Did I mention that

carrot seed oil really really stinks? :-) I will get some aloe vera juice and

try that instead of the gel. Thanks.

Sage, my first successfull attempt at a lotion was using Raven's recipe! It

feels so good to have something come out the way it's supposed to! Here's

Raven's recipe.

Raven's Enchanted Essence Lotion or Cream

1 oz e-wax

1 oz Shea butter - I used mango butter

1 oz coconut oil - I used fractionated coconut oil

1 oz vodka or other grain alcohol - I used orange water, but won't use it again.

Maybe lavender water?

Cream: 6 oz warm distilled water.

Lotion: 12 oz of warm distilled water

15 drops of fragrance oil.

Melt wax, oil and butter together. When melted slowly add the warm water

stirring all the time. When mixture cools add the alcohol and the fragrance.

Keep stirring for about 10 minutes. The alcohol is used to help in preserving

the lotion, as well as cutting some of the oily feeling.

I didn't add a preservative, as it was my first attempt, and i kept it in the

fridge. Hope this helps and have fun!

Leanna in Alberta.

Thanks Leanna,

I am going to take your advice and try Raven's recipe. When you think about

it, it was kind of silly of me to use all these expensive and exoic ils my

first time out with lotion. :-)
