Guest guest
I have the Britax Roundabout and it works great with his cast. No problems at all. Noelle (12-2-01)Ian (8-15-04) cast and carseat Hey- I asked this question a while back and got a few responses, but am going shopping soon for a new seat- not sure if I will go ahead and have him in it before or wait until he has the cast. He's in an infant carseat/carrier combo thing and is outgrowing it (and its getting WAY too heavy for me to carry also- he's 18lbs). A lot of you had mentioned the Britax was the best- if so, which one- there are 3 diff models, one with "wings" which look good for support for his torticollis and scoli, but seem restricitive maybe...... Any input would be so appreciated. Also, I hate to spend SO much right now and want the best one that fits their bodies in a cast- Thanks in advance. Guest guest
This looks like what I have, http://www.rightstart.com/global/store/product~item~3705.html I think Britax are considered the best because I think they are just considered the safest in general.. luckily ours was a baby shower gift! But just wanted to say that the different levels of strapping works out great to measure around the cast, the carseat works great for her and straps her in well and comfortable (and keep in mind my daughter has much more of a cast to cover when strapping in) but it works great.. I think as long as you get this kind of strapping you'll find ease of strapping him in comfortably for his scoli./cast, maybe a head brace thingy in the seat might help too for the torti. without having to buy one with the extra wing things there built in. > > Hey- I asked this question a while back and got a few responses, but am > going shopping soon for a new seat- not sure if I will go ahead and > have him in it before or wait until he has the cast. Guest guest
Thanks you all- I appreciate it. Wonder if either of the other Britax (Decathalon or Marathon would work?) I had seen them at Babies R Us here and thought we could go grab one this weekned. I'll just look and compare them to the Roundabout- I really appreciated the fast replies! " D. Guest guest
Hi, My daughter does not have a cast but wears a soft boston. She has wore it since she 10 months old. We had a alpa omega. Where i live i bought at Sears... But about 1 yr ago we had to get even bigger she was too small for a boost seat being only 2yrs old. I ended up gettign aperscription for a orthopedic carseat and a stoller base for the carseat to rest on to be pushed sold seperate but a set. We a perscription it is a medical device almost like a wheel chair and it is her wheel chair when we travle to te lower 48 ( we are in fairbanks alaska) to see her docs. for i can not carry 30+ lbs and carseat and bags. And being a yr behind in walk because of the breace she does not walk fast enough to get the next plan in seattle. She is still in her soft bosten now 3 yrs old and love the carseat that the insurance. They are not cheap. But with insurance help it might be worth a investment. her seat was 1500$$and the base was abouthe same. There might even be a loan closet in your area for medical needed equipment taht can loan one to you or help get you. h mother of Abigail --- <basketsnboyds@...> wrote: > Thanks you all- I appreciate it. Guest guest
Thanks so much for all the info- I"m going to try to check into everything. I think I'll buy the Britax first and if it doesn't work I'll either return it or just let my 2 year old have it and get whatever he needs ( I would think this would work but if it doesnt-your suggestion will be in the back of my mind!!). Good luck with your daughter. randy rice <akpapachef@...> wrote: Hi,My daughter does not have a cast but wears a softboston. She has wore it since she 10 months old. Wehad a alpa omega. Guest guest
We have the Britax Marathon Racer and I know that a few of the other moms, who usually don't post on this site, also have that one. Hope this helps. I really like this for the trips because there is a carrier made for it which protects it for all those flts back and forth to SLC (or Erie).basketsnboyds <basketsnboyds@...> wrote: Hey- I asked this question a while back and got a few responses, but am going shopping soon for a new seat- not sure if I will go ahead and have him in it before or wait until he has the cast. Guest guest
Jen , do you go to SLC? Do you have pictures posted of your cast? Guest guest
Well when SLC termed their casts Risser cast I asked if they're meaning they go over the shoulder & they said yes they explained the material & that they're over the shoulder. I don't think I asked if they ever do any just torso only, do you know of anybody here that has just the torso casted in SLC? When I talked to Erie they said that the smaller table does allow them to get better correction so it's easier to apply a cast on just the torso. I'm hoping that the fact she's already in one & @ such a minor degree that they'll be able to pick it up from there with just casting the torso. But Dr. is going to review her before and after x-rays and give a consult. on her case so I'm sure I'll talk with him about it then. I like the idea of having Dr. working with her too & I like their equipment better.. so we'll see if it's possible for her I guess! Were you able to save your info. to the spreadsheet? If I'm not mistaken, adding your username allows an e-mail to be sent to the address you used to register where you can access the sheet w/the save/edit option. Guest guest
Yeah, I so hope he's able to do it w/out, I hate that she can barely turn her head like a normal little kid, she just has to look out the corner of her eyes & turn all the way if she decides to.. as cute as the little look is, if it's possible to get great/maximum correction w/less cast I'm all for it! I really hope that's the case. Oh yeah, once it works for you, or somebody, then we'll know the steps & can confirm the directions are right.. and hopefully get as good of a list going as there are active users here! Guest guest
Jen, that is SO wonderful, such high degree & rotation to have @ zero now! That's so AWESOME, she's a true case of early treatment. Can I ask who your Dr. was? Just out of curiosity. Where was her curve located? Well I'm so happy for you guys and would love to read her story when it's posted. Thank you for the info.!! -- In infantile scoliosis treatment , <jenstewart73@...> wrote: > > I don't have pics posted...she is on the banner (2nd one) for the ISOP home page though....we used to go to SLC....for all intents and purposes though, (not what is endorsed by ANYONE, not , not ISOP, Shriner's, CASTS, ANYONE) she is cured/completely corrected. She wore her casts for 15 months and followed up with a TLSO 23.5 hrs/day for one month, 22 hrs/day for one month, 20 hrs/day for 3 months and is currently being weaned completely off. She started out with COBB, RVAD, and rotation all exceeding 50 degrees, with some wedging. This process when all is said and done will have taken 2 years to the exact day. She was first casted when she was 8 months old. This is the quick run down on her story. I know is working on getting it posted on ISOP. Guest guest
That's so exciting that she's able to have it off for spring and summer! I'm so happy to here of the progress that's been made for you guys, I'll pray she holds with the brace & will be interested in hearing updates about it. That's fantastic news!! I hope that since mine is already down to 15 in this cast that they'll be able to nix the shoulder straps.. I'm anxious to find out! Guest guest
Hi , I think it's good that you have the brace until she's casted, I wish I had b/c my daughter jumped from 28 degree to 50 in 2 mos. If there was going to be any kind of wait for her casting then it's definitely good she's being held till then! Good luck!! Guest guest
I've haven't had a brace at all yet so I'm not sure about that. Everyone seems to figure out their own good diapering technique for braces/casts, I was worried about that at first but I figured out a great thing that works well for us. My situation is a little more difficult even b/c this particular cast she's in goes around one leg too. But I haven't once had it go up the back of the cast or down the leg yet and we've had some pretty bad (badly soiled) ones since she's been in it. I buy large quantities of those big absorbant cotton squares (like you get to remove make-up with or something like that). And I fold the end of one (to form a cup like barrier) and wedge it in between the back of the cast and skin with my fingers so it's a nice snug/tight fit, and then I fold the rest up over the cast and lay her down on her diaper like that. I follow that sequence all the way around her leg, (I guess in your case it would be her front waist and lower back. But it works perfect, the cotton stops/absorbs anything from going up the cast, and mostly even from soiling any other parts of the cast because it's all covered by the cotton. Her cast is still in great shape & I change the water proof tape out often that covers the surround diapering area. I was worried from hearing stories of it getting smelly and such but with doing that diapering technique & powdering the water proof tape after I clean it inside and out, she doesn't smell at all (yet anyway) ;-) I've read people suggesting maxi pads too which you might try, I tried that and they didn't work to well, they were too thick (even just liners) and difficult to work with b/c of their size. I even use toilet paper & repeat all the above steps with her when I run out of the cotton before I have a chance to get more. It works well too in stopping anything from going up, just not quite as absorbant & easy to work with as the cotton pads. So that's what I do, maybe it'll help.. Take care! -Joy Hey- I asked this > > > > question a while back and got a few responses, but am > > > > > going shopping soon for a new seat- not sure if I will go > > ahead > > > > and > > > > > have him in it before or wait until he has the cast.
