Guest guest
I am trying to determine the best calculation to determine calories needed for the obese population. The ADA says Mifflin is the most accurate with multiplying the total calories by 1.3 for sedentary and subtracting 500-1000 kcal a day. Can anyone tell me if this is also what they are using? I would really appreciate any help you could give. Thank you, Abby Herrick RD LD CWP Des Peres Mynewself
Guest guest
I've always used Mifflin, but have never seen or heard of the part about always multiplying 1.3 for sedentary.I also reduce the calculated kcal requirement by 25% if the patient is post-RYGB based on Das, et al. findings that TEE and REE decrease by 25% on average after massive weight loss from RYGB.
