Guest guest
The British Medical Journal reported in 2011; 342-d20402 (April 2011) that "Calcium supplements with or without Vitamin D..." increase the risk of MI. This is the same group from New Zealand that reported in 11/2010 that calcium alone increased the risk of MI. At that time, they rec'd lots of comments/questions for not including Vitamin D; they are trying to address those conerns in the present study. This latest research still does not distinguish between calcium citrate and other forms of calcium. My question is have any of you altered your recommendations for calcium citrate supplements from the Bariatric N utriton guidelines of 1500-2400 mg/dl (depending on type of weight loss surgery)? PCPs are questioning us ("aren't you aware of the latest research?") so I am curious what the response is elsewhere. Many thanks, Quinn, MA, RD Salem, Or
