Guest guest
Hello Our program is in the process of getting approval for a bariatrician to direct the medical weight loss arm of our program, provide pre operative and post op medical care to our surgical patients and to also provide follow up for those patients who have weight regain. Both the surgeons at our program are fellowship trained, but the role of the bariatrician was very different at each fellowship. I wanted to get some feed back from the group concerning the role of the bariatrician in your programs. Does the bariatrician see all patients prior to surgery? Does the bariatrician also manage a medical weight loss program? Does the bariatrician see post op patients in the hospital and round with the group? What role does the bariatrician play in the workflow of patients preparing for surgery? Does the bariatrician work with the dietitians and psych to prepare the patients for surgery? Does the baritrician approve patients for surgery? Are the services of a bariatrician profitable?( unfortunately, this is a key point with administration). I'm assuming that all visits can be billed as a bariatrician is a medical doctor. I appreciate any input that you can provide to me on the role of the bariatrician.
