Guest guest
It is an FDA approved presciption. The rep used to come by a lot. Never used it personally or with clients, but it is approved for Diarrhea management. Tina Musselman RD, CCN, MAMind, Body & Wellness Institute(708) 846-5816 (p) From: N. I have a post-op GBP pt who recently started taking it. I know nothing about it except that it implies it's for relief of IBS, Colitis (the pt has neither). Do anyone know if this is safe to use?Thank you in advance for any info.! N. Guest guest
and , Sorry to be late in replying to your posts. On our oxalate listserve (Trying_Low_Oxalates ) we have used this probiotic extensively because, in a study by Steve some years back, he found that VSL#3 was the winner in being able to degrade oxalate in vitro. Now Brand's 4 X 6 was a very distant second, and s. boulardii had a small rate of oxalate degradation. Because of the added risks of oxalate absorption in bariatric surgery patients, VSL#3 would probably be a very good choice for a probiotic. This VSL#3 product can but does not have to be bought with a prescription. Anyone can order the lower strength " packets " directly from VSL#3.com. The prescription form of this product I believe is twice the strength and comes in capsules. This product was developed for use in ulcerative colitis or pouchitis.
