Stubborn vitamin A deficiency

I have a patient with mild vitamin A deficiency symptoms. We ordered a serum

retinol and sure enough she was deficient (20mcg/dL). We used a regimen of

100,000 IU vitamin A palmitate for 3 days then 50,000 IU for 2 weeks. Her retest

showed improvement to 27 (still deficient). She completed this regimen again and

her level stayed the same (27). Do any of you have experience with stubborn

vitamin A deficiency? Should we look at zinc? I'd appreciate any ideas.
