Guest guest
I have a friend who had gastric bypass in 2003 and lost 80 pounds. He got down to 185 # and looked great. Unfortunately, in 2008 he had 4 hospitalizations for diverticulitis and about 4 other attacks. And thus, he gained a lot of the weight back. After Gastric ByPass he was on high protein diet and would like something similar. He has tried protein drinks alone but never seems to make it past a week. He requests a regimented plan with maybe a protein drink added. Exercise is a challenge because of sleep apnea issues. He is on 10 mgs. of Ambien (Zolpidem - generic) and ipam 5 mgs every night. He claims he wakes up " like a Zombie " every morning. He is waiting to see if insurance will cover a new sleep machine. I am trying to put together a reasonable plan for him to follow. I realize for diverticulitis it is a bland diet, low residual, low fat, no seeds/nuts. For post Gastric Bypass it is high protein; small meals 5-6x times daily; MVI, Fe, Ca supplements; avoiding carbonated beverages. Is there a high protein drink that is recommended? Any other suggestions/advice from the experts would be greatly appreciated. Thank you! Healthy regards, Tsolig " Sunny " Shahinian, MS, RD sunny.shahinian@...
