I was told that a BMI of 25 is what should be used to determine excess body

weight. That is how bariatric studies show excess body weight. A 25 BMI would

give the pt a " normal " weight. In my assessments, i calculate what each person

needs to weight in order to be a 25 BMI and then I show them how much weight

they would have to lose to reach that number (EBW). Then I show them what the

average weight loss of EBW of each procedure is. This can give them an idea of

how much they can lose.

Hello,

I am also using BMI 25 for IBW in the excess body weight calculation. This is

what is recommended in the ADA Pocket Guide to Bariatric Surgery on pg 8, box

1.1.
