Guest guest
Good morning: Clinical Nutrition Insight (formally Nutrition & the MD) newsletter (August 2010) discusses a study in 2004, (Slater et al.) of 200 patients who had undergone gastric bypass. Despite supplemental Vit K of 300 ug daily; 51% had Vit K deficiencies 1 year post-op, and by 4 year follow up, 68% were deficient and 42% had levels that were undectable. .It also mentions a reported case of severe fetal hemorrhage due to maternal Vit K deficiency after gastric banding... I would be happy to forward the article electronically if permissible. Are you monitoring Vit K in your routine labwork and are you supplementing your patients with VitK?
