This study reports 48% of gastric sleeve patients had elevated levels of retinol one year after surgery. I contacted that author and requested information of the nutrition composition of the multi-vitamin product used in the study. They sent me some point of sale materials in Dutch. The product information stated that 3 tablets/d = 1200 mcg vitamin A. The study stated that the participants took 3 tablets per day.I have emailed the manufacturer a question about the chemical form of vitamin A- retinol or beta-carotene or a combination. Even if its all retinol, the intake would be less that the UL 3000 mcg/d (1:1 retinol, 12:1 b-carotene)1 REA = 1 mcg retinol = 3.33 IU vitamin A. RDA 700-900 mcg ( 2300-3000 IU), DV 1000 REA.

If I hear back from the manufacturer, I'll share what I learn.

Interesting! I just found this article and we are now considering routine lab checks for vitamin A. We previously only checked vitamin D as far as fat soluble vitamins. In what procedures exactly are you finding high levels of fat soluble vitamins? Sleeves or also bands? http://www.springerlink.com/content/b532u2412753kp30/fulltext.pdf Thank you, Cristiana--- Mar 23/11/10, Krystal Cameron <kcameron@...> ha scritto:

Has anyone seen high lab values regarding pts fat soluble vitamins? We recently started checking vitamins A, E, and K along with our typical post op labs but we are finding a large percentage of patients’ levels are coming back high. Does anyone have any research articles they could share regarding this or give me insight as to what may be the cause?
