Guest guest
Good morning, I have a patient with mild thiamine deficiency (serum thiamine 6, reference range from this lab is 8-30; he has not had WLS yet). He reports no alcohol abuse. Patient has begun taking a complete multivitamin, and from what I have read, I was going to add 20-30 mg thiamine mononitrate daily...do you agree? Also, how should labs be rechecked? RBC transketolase in 3 months? Sooner??? Thanks for your help! Guest guest
For Thiamin deficiency we give 100mg x 5 days..on empty stomach, along with MVI/min and a B-complex. Thiamin requires other Bs for better absorption.Lasix increases urinary thiamin excretion. Also, was he on a high CHO diet? CHO heavy diets require a lot of thiamin for metabolism/processing.
