Guest guest
Hello, Would anyone using Bariatric Advantage shakes be willing to share sample menus of what your pts follow pre and post-operatively? I'm in the process of re-developing our pre-op diet using Kodex recs for VLCD w/BA shakes. How long do they typcially follow this diet? (2 weeks?)Do they use only the shakes, or a combo of shakes w/ " sensible " meals (pre-op only)? Curious as to how you have used the BA products in conjunction w/ Kodex recs for VLCD. Thanks! Guest guest
I am a band practice only and we currently use Bariatric Advantage(BA) for pre and post-op. Pre-op, the goal is to have the patient be on a full liquid diet; 3-5 shakes a day is recommended. With that being said, most patients do very well on just 3 shakes/day, as they don't feel hunger or after a couple of days of doing 5 they reduce to 3, as their hunger reduces. At times I have pt's who feel hunger after 5 shakes/day and/or experience gas or diarrhea. In this case I recommend adding 1 low-carb meal which usually is the fix for the short amount of time they are on them. The pre-op diet liquid diet is only 14 days prior to surgery. One of my surgeons wants ALL of his patients on this prior to WLS, my other surgeon with the weight loss of the patient. (if they are losing on the low-carb diet, then great he will not change the diet... if not, they start the liquid diet 14 days prior to WLS.) Post-op, we use BA for the first 5 days after surgery(3-5 shakes a day), eliminating broth and juice. This is something I have changed in the past 6 months and have seen great improvements with our patients. They are healing faster and show better weight loss with eliminating sodium and sugar. I would say 90% of our patients do very well with Bariatric Advantage. I don't have them mix milk, juice or fruit with the product just water until day 6 post-op. BA has great calorie/carbohydrate free recipes to help the flavor. Hope this helps..good luck. Thank you, A.
