If you make the timeline too long they struggle to get in enough total fluid. I have seen no problems with the timeline we provide. I too find it difficult for the patients to get in their recommended fluid with the " 30-60 rule " After discussing with my surgeons today, we are going to " 0-30 rule " no liquids during and 30 minutes after the meal.
