We have always said drink right up until about 5 minutes before and then stop until 45 minutes after. If you make the timeline too long they struggle to get in enough total fluid. I have seen no problems with the timeline we provide. Best of luck/

Greetings,

I'm not sure if any of you practice/teach the "30/60 rule;" 30 minutes before the meal, during and 60 minutes after the meal no fluids. In recent conversation with my surgeon the "30 minutes before" the meal doesn't matter. In the past we use to think the fluid stayed in the pouch preventing the food to go through. He is saying, we now know the fluid goes straight through so it doesn't matter if you drink til meal time.

any thoughts on this??

are you referring to all types of surgery or just a specific one?

I am a band only practice.

I too find it difficult for the patients to get in their recommended fluid with the " 30-60 rule "  After discussing with my surgeons today, we are going to " 0-30 rule " no liquids during and 30 minutes after the meal.

Thanks for your thoughts.Thank you, A. Jarzombek
