But, recently I had a 16 y/o pursuing surgery and per patient's mother if they could prove to the insurance company his growth plates were fused they would consider surgery. Guest guest Posted June 29, 2010 Report Share Posted June 29, 2010 I attended a symposium on this topic at ASMBS and the surgeon giving the talk indicated she was doing surgeries on patients as long as they had reached Tanner stage 5 regardless of age. I am working with obese children. The pyschologist said she was more psychologically prepared than most of the adult patients he saw! She was very successful and very compliant with all dietary recommendations.
