Guest guest
I tend to go by the patient's feeling of fullness prior to the meal...some patients feel to full if they do not wait 30 minutes after drinking to eat. Other can wait only a few minutes before their meal and eat their meal just fine. I also go by how well a patient is able to drink enough fluid...some patients struggle and can use this time to increase their fluid intake (and reduced their stress about it too). I stay strict with recommending not drinking with and at least 30 minutes after meals though. Anne Marquart, MS, RD, LD / Bariatric Dietitian / Roller Weight Loss and Advance Surgery / 1280 E. In recent conversation with my surgeon the "30 minutes before" the meal doesn't matter. In the past we use to think the fluid stayed in the pouch preventing the food to go through. He is saying, we now know the fluid goes straight through so it doesn't matter if you drink til meal time. any thoughts on this?? J.
