Guest guest
hi jenn!! don't worry about poofing on us..we all understand the hectic day to day routines with kids!! sounds like you are quite busy. to your questions, all i can say in relation to those is about the weight gain. our daughter lexi who is now almost 3 in november has been a terrible weight gainer!! :-) to date, she is 24 lbs. up until we hit this point about a month ago, she hung on to the 21 lb mark for the last year and few months. now, i will say from birth until about a year old she suffered from severe reflux, which contributed to poor weight gain in that first year. since then though it has been an uphill battle to get weight on her and it doesn't help she is one finicky eater. one thing that our nutritionist suggested was that we mix tahini in her foods. this is all natural and can be bought in grocery stores which sell some specialty foods. it is nothing more than ground sesame seeds and has the consistency of peanut butter ( a tad bit runnier though ) and virtually tasteless. i mix it in her mashed potatoes and macaroni and cheese. it will pack on some fat calories. ask your nutritionist about it. i used to worry myself sick about lexi's weight and all her docs told me that if we at least got some good food in here along with a daily vitamin ( which i used to have to sneak poly vi sol, made by enfamil into her water ) that she would be fine. it wasn't like she was malnutritioned in anyway. she was getting some food in here. now she takes a chewable vitamin and i finally have her eating a few fruits which she has never done before. i take that fruit opportunity to make smoothies and shakes, but she still isn't big on them. one big staple of her diet is peanut butter which will help with the weight gain. again ask your nutritionist though....i can't remember if they have to be 2 now to have peanut butter or if they changed it to 1 year. good luck and keep us posted when you can! mjgcj <mjgcj@...> wrote: That I joined and then disappeared! Guest guest
Hi Jenn, Sounds like your life is crazy right now. Hang in there. In regards to Cole, he is a horrible weight gainer too. He is 17 months and weighs maybe 21 lbs. He has not been on the charts until last Dr. appt. at which we finally made it to the 1st% for weight. He also is a finicky eater, and I try to give him as much high fat foods as possible and I let him snack whenever. But, he still seems to gain slow. He is in the 50th % for highth, which is O.K., but all my other kids (his twin included) are in the 95%+ for highth and my husband and I are very tall. He is about 3 inches shorter than his brother. So there is definitely a growth issue. He has been 1-2 months with physical milestone, but I attribute it to lugging around a cast. Not sure why you are seeing a neurologist (for the MRI?), but the ortho will be the one to answer all you questions regarding scoliosis. Also, I'm sure you know all this, but what you want to know is: idiopathic vs. congenital, COBB, RVAD, placement of the curve. single curve or double. That is the main stuff. Make sure you get an MRI which will tell you if it is idiopathic or congenital. After you get this info. you will have many more questions. The parents on this group are amazing and a wealth of info. that you will find no where else. Good luck with everything. and Cole PS: what state do you live in? mjgcj <mjgcj@...> wrote: That I joined and then disappeared! Guest guest
Hi Jenn-I am fairly new to the group as well. I am also a SAHM with twin boys. and . got his first cast Monday, July 17. And I thought I had my hands full. You are a busy mom. In regards to eating problems and weight gain............... has always had eating problems. He never took a bottle well. There were some days I struggled to get him to drink 10 oz of formula. I was so excited when they started eating baby/table food thinking it would be better.........not so much. Some days he eats really well and others I go absolutely crazy trying to get him to eat. And he doesn't drink much either. The boys will be 16 months on August 11 and barely weighs 20 lbs. He is very long and skinny. With his cast on he looks so much longer. His doctor finally at this last visit said she was not worried about his weight. Told us to do whatever we can to get him to gain weight. So I give him/them ANYTHING. I mean anything-I add butter to lots of stuff they eat. I have tried Carnation Instant Breakfast to milk, pudding, cereal(baby cereal when he was younger), ice cream, etc. Just a few ideas. The way I feel about eating is if he is hungry he will eat. Plus I give lots of snacks all day long. It does get a little easier, at least for me it did, when they get older. As far as other questions............let me say first of all that you are extremely lucky you found this site. Read as much as you can on the site and the questions will come to you. Unfortunately we did not find the site until right before got his cast and you know there is not much info out there on infantile scoliosis. Read as much as you can on the site and ask ANY question that enters your mind. These parents in the group have been through tons that you and I are just about to or are going through right now. You have found a good place. I wish you the best for little Brenna. Tasha/ mjgcj <mjgcj@...> wrote: That I joined and then disappeared! Guest guest
Jenn, Moriah always had trouble gaining weight. She still does and is on a prescription med. to make her have an appetite. I have seen that on www.infantilescoliosis.org. in the information section is a link called calorie boosters. Maybe there is something there that would work. Guest guest
Hi Jenn: My daughter had all of the therapist there were through the birth to 3 program. (she is now 3 and1/2) hang in there I know it is hectic- we had some sort of therapy every weekday for 2 years! I never related the two but now that you have brought it up-- my daughter was off the charts in height and weight from birth - 9 months. at 9 months she stopped gaining weight, but kept growing in height which seemed fine because she was large. However at 12 months the doctor became concerned and she has had trouble gaining maintaining weight since then--maybe not incidentally we discovered her scoliosis about the same time-- we noticed it and it was diagnosed at her 12 month appointment. I think she is just going to be a tall lanky kid, as she is not a picky eater. She does have constipation and her unwillingness to eat at times seems to follow her constipation. She has delays in all avenues-- speech, physical and possibly cognitive--hard to tell because of the speech and physical delays. I hope you will find an answer, but all I can tell you is be prepared not to. They have been unable to diagnose any specific problem for us --they have thankfully ruled out a lot of things. The best that the geneticist could tell us was that he thinks she has a mild form of a genetic disorder that is very rare. So we have learned to live it and hope for the best, but the uncertainty made me nuts for a while. Good luck, E ________________________________ From: infantile scoliosis treatment [mailto:infantile scoliosis treatment ] On Behalf Of Baird Sent: Thursday, July 27, 2006 8:47 AM infantile scoliosis treatment Subject: Re: Sorry Hi Jenn, Sounds like your life is crazy right now. Guest guest
The twins are both boys. Jack and Cole will be 17 months Aug. 9th. Almost the same as yours. I don't think Jack really pays any attention to Cole's cast. He has had it on for about 9 months. He was 8 months when he got it on. He has it off for 5 weeks right now though. Guest guest
My daughter just turned three. She was 8lbs 7oz at birth and stayed " chubby " until around nine months of age too. Since then we have struggled with her weight. She was diagnosed at seven months and received her first brace at nine months (she still wears a brace). She is getting taller (25th percentile for height and 5th for weight, barely)but struggles to gain weight. She is so skinny and she also has had digestive issues and constipation too. We have also worked with a nutritionist. She's great but still no real progress. I feel so alone with these issues and have always wondered if any body else had them as well. I worry about her because pnemonia has been an issue too and she really won't eat during these spells, very concerning to me at times. Oh, we're transitioning from a birth to three program to an infant preschool program right now. We just went thru the testing stage. She did test at age level she's just overly stimulated all the time like she's on a constant sugar high (she gets distracted so easily and has a hard time staying on task), she's sensitive to sounds, light, and smell they strongly think the has a sensory disorder. We're suppose to see a OT to get her tested for it. I'm honestly just starting to learn about this disorder. But what I have read about it, it sounds like her almost to a tee. > That I joined and then disappeared! Guest guest
Thank you for sharing, I know what you feel like with the feeling alone on the issues--one more issue which I didn't mention but will throw out there since our daughters seem to be so similar is that she has pronated ankles which she wears little braces for as well. My one good hot summer calorie packing tip is to line the ice cream cone with peanut butter before putting the ice cream in it! Every high fat bite is eaten! Guest guest
Didn't realize that message was for Dr. Chansky. Wouldn't have answered if I had known. Dr. Chansky Hello--I have been on this list for quite awhile and have received a lot of helpful information. I have a 12 yr. old daughter who has OCD and a fear of vomiting. She had an onset at age 7 and has been severe enough in the past to require hospitalization and a feeding tube due to not eating because of her high level of anxiety. She is functioning fairly well on 60 mgs. Prozac and 2.5 mgs. of Zyprexa. I have been unable to find a therapist that does ERP with a child this age and I would like to try some exposures myself. Her psychiatrist thinks she gets enough exposures in the " real world " but said to try whatever I wanted. So, not a lot of help there. Whenever my daughter hears the word vomit, she can be highly anxious for the rest of the day. So, we are ready to try some exposures at home. I know I am not a trained therapist, but we aren't getting anywhere with trying to keep her symptom free with meds only. Anyway, we are making a CD with her own voice recording her worst vomit fears and also sounds, etc. from the web that she can listen to. Everything I read says to " wait until her anxiety level peaks and is lowered " before stopping the exposure. Does this typically happen within a certain time frame? A half hour? An hour? I would hate to have her listen to this tape longer than she has to! We are going to do other exposures as well. Is this a daily thing? It seems our psychiatrist's idea of just hearing about vomit periodically hasn't helped at all and I would like to do something regularly to help her lessen her fear. I did read the case on worry wise kids and it helped a lot as my daughter is very similar. Any advice you can give so I can be a help to her and not make things worse would be helpful. I know there are others on the list with vomit issues as well. Thank you. Dina ________________________________________________________________________ Check out the new AOL. I went from a ninth grade drop out to running highly scientific research ships, I owned or managed small and large buisness's and corporations,I was living proof it can be done if you set your mind to it. Now that I have been fighting this fight for so long I have been beaten down and become this miserable person that I don't even like. I try and try but it's just not working,I know I will eventually spread this poisen to your site if I am not carefull.I very much want to be part of this and do solemly swear to keep posts short and positive. My life has been amazing and have no regrets.Thank you so much,I have not given up I just know me.Hope you all have half the adventure I have had in life,It truly is an amazing thing.take care....ButchJackie

Guest guest
Hi Butch, Honey I know what it is like to get depressed by this disease. Seems like it is a never ending battle against it . And we all struggle against depression getting overwhelmed by the enormity of the imformation, treatments both good and bad. So you are in good company hon. Never fear what you say in this group. I am oldest owner of this group and the buck stops here. LOL But each and everyone of the owners of this group has been there and done that. So fear not, spout away, vent away and we will understand. Guest guest
, It's not necessary to say that, but I know how you feel. I hope you will believe me when I say I didn't mean any type of attack on you..at all. I'm sorry it came across that way. I haven't been able to sleep. I'm not going back to reread either post, but I mean it.. I have been known to get somewhat upset at at some folks that say things off the wall and could pose threat to newbies. As a newbie, you don't know shit from shinola! haha.. (I don't mean you...) I understand about the depression, me too. I understand about about family, the people you should8 be able to count on most, and then after talking to them and answering borderline yelling type questions, and hanging up, then realizing you've morphed into the 8 yr. old you use to be, clutching your self, and rocking back and forth rapidly on the edge of the couch, that you once again, realize why you are so screwed up! (me.. not you) being called stupid , is a mean thing, from those that should love you. OK Enough down memory lane. I was going to pu5t together some nice relaxing music for you, and now I can ask if it's OK? (to your pvt. email) Not my music, guys that are REALLY good, and have real sound people and stuff., I know you only from here, and the same is true for you.. and it's that way for most of us. I hope you will consider that I can be areal pain in the ass, when pushed to do so.. and that doesn't make it right. I had an altercation just last night at Wal Mart. With the "let me see your receipt guy. Too long to explain now. But anyway, , I would like to continue to think that I would not choose a newborn, or newbie to group, to hurt them in some way. I am speaking as much from my heart as I know how at this stage of maturing, that I did not mean to criticize you, Belittle;e you, be less than than what I tried to be.. which was looking out for you. I can See where it may have come across another way, but I swear to you and God as my witness, it was nit to harm, but only to help you. I feel real bad about this whole thing. Running?? That was my feeble unsuccessful attempt at humor. I joke maybe a little too much sometimes, and I told my therap8st that, and she said " who told you you joke too much?
