Guest guest
Paige ask away, I will tell you that having an IEP or 504 plan is essential. Think of what would make your son's worst day better and have it written into the plan. 1. Books for home so he doesn't have to carry heavy books. 2. Short cuts as needed. Such as not having to write out sentences from the English book just to add a punctuation mark at the end. Having a math book that he can write in. Not having to write standards as a punishment. (Just examples) 3. Extra time to get to class. No tardys on the cold mornings. (Incase he needs time to warm up.) 4. P.E. as tolerated. Get a doctor's note to say the same. ( I don't have my kids in adaptive P. E. I have just had the regular P.E. time adapted.) If the regular P.E. schedule can not be adaptive for a day or two, access to resource room to use the computers as his P. E time. 5. A keyboard made available (as needed) to prevent hand fatigue. 6. Resource time as needed for help with keyboarding etc. 7. A note taker and carbon paper available. 8. Front of the line lunch pass to avoid standing in line. It sounds like P.E is your main concern. I just went through that. Look into the Adaptive P.E program and see what you think. Our middle school is still small. My 2 kids would be in A.P.E. They would feel funny. Other then that I would have tried A.P.E. You don't need to use these modifications. Just in case, they will be there.
