I have a pt who I have seen for 9 visits over the last 4 weeks. She is

responding well but still has some resdiual lumbar pain. She is interested in

seing an acupuncturist for a few visits. Can I refer her? If so, would the Lac

be included in the 18 visit/60 day rule?

Thank you

Joe, somebody in the Concentra system is the attending physician(AP), and it's not the PT. You may be able to get a co treatment referral from the AP depending on Concentra and WC carrier policies, but don't count on it. I usually tell an injured worker if they are getting satisfactory results in the system to stick with it and see me after the WC is legally resolved. We can provide good followup care under either cash or group medical status when the WC condition is medically stationery. R Johansen D.C. Hello fellow listmates,

I’ve got a longstanding patient who came in with a mild supraspinatus tear and mild bursitis in right shoulder post work injury. She’s in the Concentra system right now and seems to like her PT. She came to me for my opinion on the shoulder and for what she and her PT thought was associated neck pain and headaches.

I examined her. Must I gain a referral for that examination to be paid for? Is it permissable for myself and the PT to be working on this injury? If theres too much difficulty I believe I can treat outside of the workers comp arena if she wishes, but since she has already established a case, I’m not sure if this is still true????

Thanks guys!
