Guest guest
If you have 45 minutes this is a good lecture by Robb Wolf. At approx. 38 minutes he does some case hx's and addresses epigenetics. http://rce.csuchico.edu/Mediasite/Viewer/?peid=b25c9f0075fc4320898afc0b1bc9f644 Seitz, DC Tuality Physicians 730-D SE Oak St Hillsboro, OR 97123 (503)640-3724
Guest guest
Thanks for sharing . I did not find much to understand epigenetics though. He merely touched on the subject in relation to diseased conditions. I remain interested in this area as to its full influence on our dietary requirements for optimal health. This has not been investigated yet to my knowledge. Schneider DCOn Wed, Apr 20, 2011 at 4:28 PM, BRIAN SEITZ <dcdocbrian@...> wrote: If you have 45 minutes this is a good lecture by Robb Wolf. Guest guest
Agreed, he merely touched on it, but I like his statement about a gene being called a breast cancer gene, which he equated with fear-mongering. Epigenetics is a fascinating subject, and frankly the biochemistry is way beyond me, but it appears to be about methylation. I was at a seminar in Seattle 2 weeks ago presented by Thorne, "pathways to cellular health" which was very educational. Thorne (and others) make supplements that are proposed to put the brakes on this cellular switching. The supplements are from cruceferous vegies, (and 1 capsule = 3 lbs of broccoli!). Do they help? The studies presented suggested they do.Attached is a paper suggesting that epigenetic changes occur in the brains of depressed and suicidal people. (Doesn't speak to tx, other than to say SSRI's don't affect methylation) Seitz, DC Tuality Physicians 730-D SE Oak St Hillsboro, OR 97123 (503)640-3724dcdocbrian@...CC: From: portlandchiro1@...Date: Thu, 21 Apr 2011 09:36:49 -0700Subject: Re: Blast from the Past: The Paleo Solution Thanks for sharing . Guest guest
Dr. Seitz I am in pursuit of the truth. Mason says he has the most researched nutritional website on the internet, www.youngagain.org He is also the formulator of Beta Prostate formula sold by New Vitality (over 1.2 million bottles a month). He is heard on nationwide radio. He says he doesn't care what people eat, or what kinds of supplements they take, (he is willing to promote anything), he just requires that an exhaustive search of Chemical Abstracts demonstrates the validity of eating a certain way, or taking a certain supplement. I sent him your link, and below is his response.Alah D.C.alansmithdc@...Subject: Re: Blast from the Past: The Paleo SolutionDate: Wed, 20 Apr 2011 23:14:07 -0400From: yap1993@... this is a joke, right? roger a "good argument"? Guest guest
Dr. -Upon you encouragement in the past I have visited Mr. Mason's site. I will be frank; to quote him (below), I find his site and statements to be a joke. I am a practicing Chiropractor. I am not a researcher, biochemist, chemist, biologist... But I know how to read with a skeptics eye. I scour the internet for journal articles, I read the entire article when possible. I find good nuggets and I find crap (IMHO). I don't follow a guru, but an evolutionary perspective is a logical one to follow, again, IMHO. I don't know what your relationship is with Mason, and frankly I don't care. He has no credibility to me. Guest guest
I would agree with on this one. Mason appears to be a bit flippant at best and shallow at worst.
