Guest guest
96 year old lady with gas in stomach. This is odorless and in great quantities. She is unable to eat more than 4 bites of food because she feels full. I'm wondering if she may be swallowing air during the night that is causing this. Her mouth is very dry at night and she sleeps without her dentures and with her mouth wide open. Please give me suggestions for eliminating this problem. I am able to help her release the trapped gas but it collects again. I think if it were helium, she would lift off, there is that much. Guest guest
Hi Joan, Have you tried using charcoal capsules yet? If not they should be taken with her meals, forewarn her that she may be belching black air during the process of digestion. Herb Freeman D.C. Swallowing air? 96 year old lady with gas in stomach. Guest guest
Dr. Schultze, Don't think it's aerophagia. Sounds like she is not digesting. Often with poor digestion, lots of fermentation occurs, producing copious gas. You can try apple cider vinegar 1 teaspoon in a glass of water per meal, or Zypan from Standard Process or a multi-digestive aid of that sort. Dry mouth may be from eating before going to bed or eating too much starchy foods, which will dry one out. Fatty foods actually keep more moisture in. Has she been on a low-fat diet or a SAD diet? And be sure to adjust C6 and T5 for stomach and gastric. Christian Mathisen, DC, CCWFN 3654 S Pacific Hwy Medford, OR 97501 cmathdc@... Guest guest
Hi Joan, First, look to her HCL content: at that age she'll need digestive support: 10 grains/648 milligram HCL w/ each meal and at bedtime with a dose of liquid calcium will start a turn around. Adding in a dose of liquid minerals/day will help ALL of the digestive processes and the hydrational comp0onents, especially with the GB and liver components. Probiotic replacement: I recommend the kefir from Turtle Mountain/So Delicious (Coconut milk) source....excellent level of bugs with good (non-disease provoking AND health promoting) milk base. She will be a category II, needing supine blocking and a hiatal hernia release ..... indicator is at the L thenar web: any congested feeling = positive for a hiatal hernia of some degree.
