Guest guest
Docs: As a follow-up to my recent post about the Harvard Medical School professor (and surgeon at Brigham & Women's Hospital and consultant to several big insurance companies) who I heard interviewed on NPR radio a few weeks ago saying that insurance companies are saving boo-koo bucks by having "health coaches" manage their insured's medical care, I see now that ODS has implemented a "trained health coach" program to "assist" in their insureds' medical care. Some of you may have received the same flyer from ODS today regarding their "Spine & Joint Care Health Coaching Program," signed by E. , M.D., M.B.A., Chief Medical Officer. In the 3rd. paragraph he states, "My hope is that between visits with you, our staff can help your patients develop healthy behaviors and lifestyle self-care practices that align with your treatment recommendations." For some reason I just can't seen their coaches "aligning" with chiropractic and, instead, will more than likely steer the patient toward physiatry and pain management. Furthermore, I thought I was supposed to help my patients "develop healthy behaviors and lifestyle self-care practices." Maybe we should encourage our kids and grand-kids to become "health coaches" so that we will have at least a few case managers out there who know something about chiropractic. :-) Lyndon McGill, D.C.
