Thanks for having me! What class did you take, Jeanne Rose's at Blunda? That was just held recently. By all means, take Mandy's class. I hear it's lots of fun and a great learning experience - in a beautiful setting, nestled in nature. -- Sincerely, Anya Anya's Garden of Natural Perfume http://AnyasGarden.com - rare and exotic aromatics and artisan perfumes, perfumery classes and consultation Natural Perfumers Guild http://NaturalPerfumersGuild.com

I am originally from Miami and go back there often. I was wondering if you ever do live in the flesh classes. I'm one of those people who learn so much better visually and would love the opportunity to work in the lab with an experienced natural perfumer. Do you ever do any classes like that? Guest guest
Thanks for the warm welcome, Janita, Anya and Lara. Janita, I don't remember exactly the berries I used to make the lip gloss. We called them " beach berries " because they grew on a bush at the beach. They were tart and bitter but stained the skin a nice red. I also used sea grapes from time to time if the birds didn't get to them first. I didn't realize it at the time but not having access to things like television and shopping while growing up really sparked my imagination. The flower necklaces were always a big hit. We also used spider lilys and anything that smelled good. It was a fun way to group up! Cathi

Hi Anya, I took a short 3 hr class at the Nova Studio in Pt Richmond. It's a great introduction to natural perfumery. Our teacher highly recommended Jeanne Rose's classes and Mandy's class at Esalen. We're planning to take Jeanne's class next Spring and Mandy's in January. I'm also hoping we can make it to France next Summer to take some classes in Grasse. Don't know if that will be here or in Austin, my plans are on hold due to the RE market, but I am probably going to buy an investment property there after the first of the year -- maybe even some here! -- so my future location is not set in stone at this time. As far as a virtual class -- don't discount it. Module Two starts next week, and it will be very hands-on and actually more important that the students learn to dilute and complete complex organoleptic evaluations on their own time. I'm insisting they work with at least one essence a day, and it will be very intense. No way that could be translated into a course that was only a few hours, even in person. THEN, after a year of study, the student will be ready for hands-on lab work. It's a slow process, content-rich, and demanding of total dedication. I have many lab tricks to share, stuff my ex taught me (PhD scientist) that are just fabulous. -- Sincerely, Anya Anya's Garden of Natural Perfume http://AnyasGarden.com - rare and exotic aromatics and artisan perfumes, perfumery classes and consultation Natural Perfumers Guild http://NaturalPerfumersGuild.com

It's really great that both yourself and your husband are interested in the same hobby. I remember when I first started and my husband didn't have a clue, then over the last year he has taken an interest in alchemy and now has a laboratory set up in the shed where he is making alcohol and is making alchemical tinctures also. I think taking a class together would be just perfect. I might be a little competitive though if we were both 'noses' I would want to be the better one.
