Guest guest
Hi , I have students and officials at UWS working an updated version of the side comparision of the MD degree at OHSU versus the DC at UWS, versus the ND at the naturopathic college. Our good colleague I believe Dr. Glen Gumner (sp) produced the original core curriculum comparison back around 1990 as a student at Western States. Stay tuned....as memory serves the 4-year DC degree was some 1100 more clock hours than the MD and the ND degree even more......putting this together for legislative activities the OCA has regarding Health Care Reform....when I get it you will get it....sorry I don't have an immediate answer.... Vern Saboe DC/MD Education compared. Colleagues. I have a graph on my website that compares DC education to MD education hours: Go here : and scroll to bottom: http://www.springbrookclinic.com/index.php?p=52985I just had someone (who I believe is in the medical field) call "BS" on that graph and ask for citation. Does anyone know where this particular graph is cited from? I wrote my web designer guy to ask and he has not gotten back to me yet. Neil (the web guy) is actually impeccable, so I know he did not pull it out of nowhere. Does anyone know, for sure? Thanks. Guest guest
, I have a current 2010-2011 UWS catalog in front of me right now. Just got out of a meeting with faculty. The current total hours of every subject you need, can be totaled from this. call UWS @ (503) 256-3180 and ask for admissions. You can request a current catalog or ask if it's on the univ website. Pg 43 begins the outline of course of study. total hours in straight anatomy and palpation: that I just added up from this are: 418 hours, however, not sure if you're adding adjusting classes in with anatomy, I didn't; and many other subjects that overlap. The list you have on your website is from an older version. Here's an interesting current fact from UWS education: total lecture hours : 2414.5 total lab hours: 2183.5 total clock hours: 4598 You'd have to go thru the catalog and add totals for individual subjects. Numbers can be skewed if someone adds or subtracts related subjects in categories. How you group the subjects can vary. Also, different chiropractic colleges have different hours for subjects. As most of you probably know, some of the colleges don't cover PT. So technically you could say on your website, this is the Oregon comparison. Or This is a comparison from a university that scores second in the world on national board testing. However, we may have just moved to #1 in most areas of testing outcomes. It's nearly impossible to make a broad comparison of ALL medical education to ALL DC education since it varies somewhat from state to state and country to country. I would bet that Medical universities and colleges vary as well. Minga Guerrero DC Re: DC/MD Education compared. Guest guest
; from “The university formally known as WSCC” here is a pdf of class hours:http://uws.edu/Academic_Programs/Doctor_of_Chiropractic/DC_Program_Curriculum.pdf at the bottom they list 4598 total class hours I’m having trouble with getting the same info from OHSU. Their website does not total the course load. Here is another web site that has a graph similar to yourshttp://www.middlesexchiro.com/uploads/Chiropractic_Education_vs._Medical_School.pdf Glenn Sykes, DC Gresham Town Fair Chiropractic ClinicPhone: (503) 667-6744Fax: (503) 661-7896WWW.GRESHAMCHIROPRACTOR.NET From: [mailto: ]On Behalf Of J. , DCSent: Thursday, March 24, 2011 7:59 AM Subject: DC/MD Education compared. Guest guest
All, When you look at the hour totals in that schematic it's for quarter system. For total education hours, you have to add the number of quarters. However, the 'clock hours' list the total for the entire education- 4598. Entire educ lab hours will total to 2183.5 and total education lecture hours will be 2414.5. Thanks for that link Glen. Minga Guerrero DC/MD Education compared. Colleagues.
