Guest guest
As far as I know, they have not concluded that BetaGen is any more effective cycled (discontinuing use and resuming use). However, loading up once in a while will help. I would definately stay on it. Also, in my first challenge I sometimes cycled it with Cytovol (to save on money). Guest guest
Along with Joe's questions about usage, can I ask what Betagen is for and how I could benefit from it? Guest guest
It is a blend of creatine monohydrate and HMB. The creatine supports ATP recovery by supplementing phosphate. ATP is the chemical that releases energy used in contracting the muscle when it goes from ATP to ADP. Creatine thus allows you to lift heavier weights than you otherwise would be able to and in turn that gives a signal to your muscle that it is stressed and needs to grow. (very simplified explanation that would not provide a passing grade in a biology class) HMB is claimed to reduce muscle breakdown in response to stress and therefore your muscles start growing from a larger base. Also there is a separate fat loss mechanism which has been postulated if you spread the dose out over the day more uniformly. BetaGen does not contain the high calorie sugar transport system that Phosphagen HP has and is popular on a fat loss regimen. A good source of information about the product is at the EAS website. Muscle Media Magazine has had articles in the past on supplements and the March issue has a lot of material in this regard. Kit
Guest guest
Betalean is the fat burner and Betagen is creatine, which helps some with fat burning, but mostly helps with muscle recovery following workouts and with muscle building. I use it 5 days per week, 3 times per day. I have noticed that I have better workouts (weights) when I use it than when I forget. Maybe they have a product to help with memory? Kathy > Ok all I'm trying to find out some info. In the pack > that they sell via EAS they include something called > Betagen... Guest guest
.. I use it 5 days per week, 3 times per day. >> How do you use it? It is powder form right? Guest guest
It doesn't hurt at all to take Betagen slowly, as opposed to " slamming " it down. Actually, from what I have read about HMB, it is better to take it in smaller doses throughout the day, so I imagine sipping away at it would qualify as spacing the dosage out more efficiently. Most people, myself included, don't have time to take 6 doses, so I just take it 3 times per day in my shakes. More water is a definite must when you are taking any kind of creatine supplement, so make certain you drink all your water during the day. I always follow my shakes with a huge glass of water. Hope this helps. Guest guest
Sonja, I know you are not to take 6 doses of Betagen, I was referring to an article in MM about HMB (and ingredient in Betagen) which stated that the benefits of HMB are increased if taken in smaller doses throughout the day. This would mean (if you have time) that instead of taking one serving of Betagen three times per day, you would take a 1/2 serving of Betagen 6 times per day, so the total amount would remain the same. Sorry if I caused any confusion. Guest guest
Hi and welcome! You don't have to take any supplements to be successful on BFL, but some of them will enhance your efforts. I took Betagen on my first challenge (Aug-Nov 2000) and had good results. My second challenge I chose not to take it, and didn't get very good results but that may have been due to a combination of factors not entirely related to Betagen. If you can't afford it, don't worry about it! It is much better to spend your hard-earned money on a quality meal-replacement shake or protein powder, where you are getting a whole bunch of other nutrients along with your protein. If you *do* find it in your budget, though, you can get Betagen pretty cheap at some online supplement stores. I use www.netrition.com, or www.nathigh.com, and some other members use www.vitaglo.com and are very happy ith them. Jen B. > I have just started the BFL program - W1D4!! Guest guest
I am new to this group and thinking of taking betagen to help with my workout routine. I would like to know how anyone feels about it. Has it worked for you? Side effects? what is the best way to take it. I want to gain 5 pounds. Also, what shakes are the most popular. Thanks!!!! Guest guest
I've used Betagen on and off for two years. I've always gotten mixed opinions on how this supp should be used. Should I take it immediately after weightlifting and then 2 more times evenly spaced during the day? If I happen to just do cardio one day a week, should I still take it that day, or skip it? I know Skwigg would be knowledgable in this area so I hope you're out there! Any other factual opinions out there? Thanks! Laurie
Guest guest
I take one serving post-workout on weight days only, three weeks on and one week off. If you've been using it for years, you sure don't still need three servings a day, every day. But if you've been off of it for a while and you're just starting back, take one serving post-workout (weights and cardio) every day but free day for the first month, and then drop back even further to weight days only, three weeks on and one week off. That's enough to get your muscles fully saturated and then maintain it. I'm sure you've probably seen this a million times but there is a lot more info here: Betagen and Creatine http://www.skwigg.com/id53.html The main thing to keep in mind is that the dose on the bottle (3 servings a day) is based on a 200 pound man. It can make make smaller women bloated, thirsty, crampy, and cranky. If you only take it once a day, you get all of the strength/recovery benefits without the bloating drama. Guest guest
Be sure to price shop. I've seen GNC charging over $100 for a 90 serving tub of Betagen. I about fell over! It's not like it has gold dust in it or anything! It usually costs $39 or so online and a tub will last 3-6 months if you're taking it once a day or weight days only. I've always had great results with it in terms of strength gains, workout recovery, and muscle definition. I like orange flavor. On 4/11/06, <rachel@...> wrote: > I started taking Betagen this week. Guest guest
So I don't need to take it 3 times a day like it suggests? How often should I take it? Re: Betagen Be sure to price shop. Guest guest
If you're an avid weigher like me, don't be alarmed if the scale goes up a few pounds. Betagen sends water to the muscles. I went up a few pounds and then Sunday, just dropped like 5, so it goes away. <rachel@...> wrote: Glad to hear it Tara. Now I am excited to see how it goes for me! Guest guest
I take it twice a day on lifting days, once a day on cardio days and not at all on free days. the 3 times a day is general and I think is mostly for men. Correct me if I'm wrong, , but I don't think women need that much Creatine to see results. <rachel@...> wrote: So I don't need to take it 3 times a day like it suggests? How often should I take it?
