Guest guest
Dear Colleagues, I write to you today from Miami where in a few hours I meet my medical mission team and fly on to the Dominican Republic. My team members include team leader Joe Pecaroro MD, a vascular surgeon, several other surgeons and nurses, an anesthesiologist and a family practice doctor. I will be serving our team as the only chiropractor and functional neurologist. Our itinerary includes visits to several villages to provide children’s and adult clinics and a men’s clinic in a prison. At each of these clinics I will be treating the children and adults with chiropractic, functional neurology, physical therapy and rehab. Additionally I will be educating villagers in general and case specific health strategies. I will also be educating physicians and local health care providers on case specific physical medicine strategies and the chiropractic paradigm and philosophy. We will also be working at a local hospital where surgeries will be performed. I am bringing a variety of therapeutic aid, supports and equipment which health care personnel will be trained in the use of and will be left at the various clinics and the hospital. Some of the items include proprioception perturbation plates, SOT blocks, assorted supports, rolls and other rehabilitation tools. An accounting for the trip to date includes $2176.00 that has been raised through donations. To cover the travel, lodging, and food costs was originally estimated $2000.00 but due to increases in airfare and other costs has now risen to about $2500.00. Additional expenses of $490.00 include the therapeutic aids, supports and equipment I have personally purchased and other miscellaneous costs of approximately $200.00 which I am sure will go up. At the time of this email only $220.00 has come from the chiropractic community. I believe it is important for the chiropractic community to support such efforts for benefit of those less fortunate and for the good will it builds in both our local and global communities. Additionally working alongside my medical colleagues builds relationships and better understanding for our mutual contributions and the heart we each have to serve in bringing peace to the world. Mother once said, “If we have no peace, it is because we have forgotten that we belong to each other.” As I have shared about the trip and with the current disaster in Japan others have asked how they might help. We have set up a web address specific to this trip for those of you that would like to donate at www.fishersofmenministries.net. Additionally, we are in the process of expanding our board and mission to include opportunities to service for chiropractors and other willing hearts. We will keep you posted. Thank you for your consideration of this email. Please pray for our mission and our team members and their families.
