Guest guest
I am reading so much about tincturing. Could you please tell me if the strength of the fragrance in the tinctue is as strong and stable as its corresponding absolute? Is it really worth taking the trouble rather than just going ahead and buying the eos or absolutes( money consideations apart, although I know there can be a big saving there)) Also, I am little confused about the difference between tincture and extract. Can someone pl. explain? Thanks a lot for your help. Prabha

When the French invented and perfected the extraction of aromatics of delicate botanicals with solvents, it was the most convenient way to convert the fragrant molecules into an easily transportable, compact product. Imagine if they had to load huge barrels of alcohol-tinctured rose onto crude wagons pulled by horses in the 17th Century! So their invention proved a boon to the industry. I think that the tincturing we're doing is right in line with what an artisanal perfumer can create for their business. I typically change the flowers four or five times to arrive at a really saturated tincture. My Michelia alba flower tincture is so strong I dilute it, just as I would an absolute! As long as you can grow it economically, and especially if it's a rare or unseen product in the industry, like my night-blooming jasmine flower tincture, it's well worth the effort. -- Sincerely, Anya Anya's Garden of Natural Perfume http://AnyasGarden.com Natural Perfumers Guild http://NaturalPerfumersGuild.com Natural Perfumers 1200+ members Group http://tinyurl.com/78kmv
