All the books I've found on " natural cosmetics " are all about skin

care, moisturizers, etc. I've found some web sites that seem to have

supplies for making natural make-up (like blush, eye shadow, lip

stick, etc.), but no clear info on making such things naturally. Does

anyone have any suggestions?

Here you go! :o)

Hi Adam,

If you look into the so-called " natural " makeups that are now out

there, most seem to be all about ground-up minerals for color (also a

large percentage of the colorants in conventional makeup). They all

claim to not be pore-cloggers, but I can't help but wonder how " dirt "

put on one's skin would not cover up one's pores and possibly clog

them. Paint is paint, whether natural or not. Then there are plant

colors -- aka dyes and stains. Which are transparent, and then would

be absorbed by the skin, staining it, rather than sitting on top of

it. You could mix plant colors with rice powder or other plant-derived

ingredients -- which might still clog the pores. Of course, whatever

you put on the skin is ingested into the body by the skin. (So it

needs to be edible because you're getting your filtering organs

involved.) And whatever goes onto the eyes ends up in the eyes. Stuff

doesn't stay put -- it migrates.

Personally, I'd be more into the dye type than the mineral type, but

that's because I have seriously sensitive skin. (I'm actually hoping

to get mine tattooed on -- but am not sure about the ink yet.)

HTH...

Adam-

I am a mineral makeup snob. I have tried many and know that many

call it natural and really they are not.

Here are some helpful links to guide you:

Formulas as a base (don't have to use their exact ingredients)

Book on making makeup

I would suggest looking for some blogs and groups that focus on

natural makeup. They are out there. I have seen many lately.

Here is a great company that makes some of the most natural makeup I

have found. Based out of NY. They are called " Crush Groove "

Here is a link to their ingredients page:

I think they are setting the standard for natural cosmetics.

Good luck Adam!
