I read the article, and I'm a little suspicious of the Natures Gate fragrances. I'm sure that they use synthetics. You can smell it. --------------------------------- Luggage? GPS? Comic books? One of their perfumes in particular I remember as being really synth. Sometimes their PR people pull a fast one on the magazine editors. It's a long road to educate everyone. I totally agree- I know that Nature's Gate is using some synthetics. They list " fragrance " on a few of their products. My nose (or, rather, my sinuses) can usually tell, since I tend to get an inflammatory response when there are synthetics present. If it makes me feel crappy when I sniff it, it's fake (esp. " fresh " types of synthetic fragrances). They can't fool us!

It's actually really bugging me the way health food stores and natural food stores are carrying synth perfumes and cosmetics scented with synths. It just really seems hypocritical to me, and contrary to the whole point of natural cosmetics! Ok, so they have some synthetic preservatives, but come on. I bought products labeled " natural " or " organic " for years before I figured out they were full of synths. The other day my husband brought home a bottle of " natural " dishsoap from the food co-op which smells like artificial pear. I read the ingredients and one of them is " pear oil. " Pear oil?! It obviously has nothing to do with actual pears but the language is so deceptive. The average consumer would have no idea they were using a synth fragrance. ________________________________________________________________________________\ ____ Take the Internet to Go: Go puts the Internet in your pocket: mail, news, photos & more. http://mobile./go?refer=1GNXIC

Was visiting a friend--- she was using an " air freshener " in her house that literally made me sneeze... and then cough. Couldn't get out of there fast enough. And she thinks it smells great. YEEEUCK. > Hi ...... Unfortunately this is the case.......The misuse of the word is either through ignorance or downright ripoff marketing...... I've been in a grocery store where they were selling lamp rings and " Aromatherapy " oils..... " Rose " , " sandalwood " and " lavender " were all the same price..... Narural Perfumery is gonna be another of those buzzwords.....as it gains momentum....It's already happening....and you'll see it more and more in the marketplace.... There have been folks who have come to this list, and tried to stretch the idea of NP to include their synth approaches.... The public hasn't a clue...... Example....I had Ruth's rose concrete shipped to me at work.......(Thanks WhiteWitch!!!).... I offered sniffs..... No one could identify it as a rose product......a coupla folks thought it looked disgusting.....(I will refrain from passing on their comments....<G>...) My Boss said it reminded him of the resort town candle shops his wife drags him through every vacation.... Now, I did my best to educate these folks.....but how far can you get in 5-10 minutes...? And, as anyone who is into natural essences knows, there is a learning curve.... In fact, with the number of true EOs, Abs, CO2s and other extraction system essences, one might view it as a lifetime learning curve.... So, be ready for it when the marketers rip off Natural Perfumery also...... And you will get just as incensed as the Hedge Wizard does when he sees how the word and concept of Aromatherapy has been bastardized.... -- W. Bourbonais L'Hermite Aromatique BTW.......The next time I was in that grocery store by the " AT " pegged display, I had a supply of postits that I stuck to the carded items..... Each had the letters B S on it...... Guerilla AT....

At first I kind of liked the smells, but like most synths, they got disgustingly cloying. I think on some level I knew the difference, even though I was still learning the difference between synths and true naturals. --------------------------------- Need Mail bonding?
