Hi Ruth, What an exiting time for you! Congrats on all this news, and especially the magazine editorials! You are on your way to become THE natural perfumer in Ireland! Hugs to you! Wow. I almost > feel like a nap just reading it all! > That's funny, Andrine. That's the same question I am always asking Ruth. And, you know, I actually think she doesn't sleep very much. Ruth, I think that store idea sounds incredible! I would be in a store like that every day. Actually, I live around the corner from an herb shop and I love it so much, I am there all the time. I love all the beautiful lined up jars of loose herbs. But they carry some synthetic fragrance oils and I wrote a complaint about it because they don't say that they are synth. Your store would be much better. Oh, and I think we are all mourning that patchouli. So sad. ________________________________________________________________________________\ ____Choose the right car based on your needs. Thats if I'm still alive and have not died from the stress! <G> Ruth, it was only three or four days since your last post, but seeing all you're considering doing, I think Galway has 48 hours in the day, so it seemed like a lot longer, lol. Shops are very, very demanding of time and energy. You NEED a paid shop assistant to be there days you aren't, or can't be there due to illness, other projects, etc. Also, they need to be well-trained in naturals to communicate to the public. Mandy didn't sign with a store until they promised, in writing to hire a salesperson dedicated to her counter, and that they flew her to Berkeley to be trained by Mandy. I know, sadly, of two stores that closed in the past year, one in CA, one in the UK. Both had a " salon " type atmosphere like you say, the UK one with tea, etc. You need to give classes to supplement the income, to get people into the shop. Grueling, hard work. I've consulted with several perfumers in the past year about shops. Reality, it stinks sometimes. Overhead sucks a bank account dry. They realized they aren't ready. Myself, I plan to stay on the internet and place my stuff in stores, but that's just me with only 24 hours in the day and non-millionaire status ;-) Anya's Garden of Natural Perfume http://AnyasGarden.com Artisan Natural Perfumers Guild http://ArtisanNaturalPerfumers.org Natural Perfumers Community Group / Natural Perfumery Blog http://AnyasGarden.Blogspot.com/

Having built up and helped run The Outback for ten years and then retired in 98 ' to raise Mina and start Ascent........ I echo what Anya has just said...... It will suck you dry..... customers are very demanding and will drain you..... but if you are the type of person that thrives on this sort and there are some that do ... then maybe this is for you....... You have to decide what you want ... but Ruth you have done this before anyway in a different guise with blasta foods wasn't it.... so you know what you are getting yourself into......you know the score........... You have to decide whether to expand or where you want to take this... only you can do that. It is interesting how there is a point one gets to when you have to sit back and decide where you're taking this.... or where you want to go....and most importantly what you want out of it....and what the consequences might be for this....that's the hard part.
