Dear Colleagues, Especially you colleagues who are “Board Certified” in orthopedists and wish to re-certify which is required of you every five years with the Academy of Chiropractic Orthopedists (ACO). This is also for those of you who are “Board Eligible” having completed all the course study to sit the Board examination. For those of you who originally obtained Board Certification with the old Board and hold a DABCO I would strongly recommend hooking up with the Academy as in my opinion the “Am Board of Chiropractic Orthopedists” is no longer functional. The Academy of Chiropractic Orthopedists is the certifying body for the subspecialty of chiropractic orthopedics and represents the orthopedic coalition of the American College of Chiropractic Orthopedists (ACCO & the educational body), the Council on Orthopedics of the ACA (the political body), and the Academy of Chiropractic Orthopedics (ACO – the testing & certifying body). Why re-certification? Because governmental agencies, third party payers, administrators and the “finders of fact” (medi-legal matters) will require proof that you have kept you clinical knowledge and skills sharp by being continually updated with the latest scientific information involving the field of orthopedics which you claim to be an expert in. More and more colleagues around the country who are posing as experts are being asked on the witness stand when did they last recertify. Point being to re-certify ever five years you must have completed 75 hours of qualifying educational study attending the ACCO Annual Clinical Symposium each year for five years will gain you those 75 hours. There are other academic studies any achievements that will qualify you such as writing an original paper that is published in a peer reviewed journal or a text book but attending the ACCO symposium each year is the easiest way in which to ensure you are obtaining the needed hours……This year’s Annual ACCO Symposium is being held April 26 (Thru), 27th, and 28th in San Diego, CA. Go to, ACCOWEB.ORG for all the information regarding the meeting. If you have any questions regarding all of this simply email me off list or call my cell at 541-231-4528. Cheers, Vern Saboe, DC., DACAN., FICC., DABFP., FACO
