Joint pain as a nutritional deficiency?

I have a patient who is 2 years s/p RNY. Is now complaining of joint pain and

stiffness. His orthopod diagnosed him as " prearthritic. " He doesn't belief the

doctor. He believes it is " yet another unexpected side effect of the bariatric

surgery. " FYI, he eats sashimi about 4-5 times a week.

I am looking for recommendations on what to test or assess.

Thanks,

Darcie Ellyne

Vitamin D would be my first step if there aren't other clinical signs and symptoms. I would also check thiamin since raw fish contains "thiaminases" which decrease bioavailability. Have you done a complete lab set on him?
