Guest guest
Shriners definately has a mileage program because they just sent me a check for $100, to reimburse us for our road trip to SLC. HRH Re: Re: Shriners - Tampa Along the lines of traveling, does the Shriners help with gas mileage? I know in Kansas, if someone sponsors you they will either help pay, or get a vehicle and actually drive you to appointments. Also, I know our insurance reinburses us for a certain dollar amount of hotel cost and gas money spent. We just send in our receipts and they cut a check. Perhaps that would be something to check on as well. Also most state medicaid systems have mileage reinbursement too. That original list camefrom a Synthes salesperson in February of this year. I'm not sure where to get an inclusive list ofofficial VEPTR sites. Word of mouth seems to be thebest bet for now. Alynn - I read that you are not feeling "right" aboutSilas's treatments and recommendations so far. Traveling for evaluations and care is an option. Nota fun option to plan, but it is do-able. As long asyou plan ahead and make sure all your ducks are in arow, you could make one visit to a good facility avery informative and successful visit. Many of us onthis list have traveled quite a long distance to getthe best care possible for our child(ren). Rememberthat each child is unique and there isn't aone-size-fits-all treatment. One procedure ortreatment may be right for one, but not others.I agree with Deshea - Silas needs an evaluation by agood pediatric neurosurgeon, in addition to a goodpediatric orthopedist who has extensive experiencetreating children like him. A good pulminologistwouldn't hurt either.Good luck and let us know if you have more questions.CarmellCarmellmom to Kara 18, idiopathic scoliosis, Blake 13, GERD and Braydon 9, VACTERL, GERD, DGE, Titanium Rib Project patient #137 (dbl implant 8/01), thoracic insufficiency, rib anomalies, congenital scoliosis (fusion surgery 5/96), missing coccyx, fatty filum/TC (released 4/99), anal stenosis, chronic constipation, horseshoe (cross-fused) kidney, dbl ureter in left kidney, ureterocele (excized 6/95), kidney reflux (reimplant surgery 1/97), neurogenic bladder, bilateral hip dysplasia, right leg/foot dyplasia, tibial torsion, clubfoot with 8 toes (reconstructed 2/96, 3/96, 1/97, 3/04), pes cavus, single umblilical artery, tonsil-adnoidectomy and ear tubes (3/98), etc. http://carmellb-ivil.tripod.com/myfamily/ ____________________________________________________Start your day with - make it your home page http://www./r/hs Start your day with - make it your home page
