Guest guest
This might be of interest to some. This comes from Bill Foran, CSCS and the Miami Heat's strength and conditioning coach. He apparently has extensive experience with training and testing athletes at high levels of competition and of different backgrounds. He states that we often hear people talking about vertical jumps above 40 " , but those he thinks are not true vertical jumps (where the athlete is measured jumping straight up without taking a step; a dip is allowed though of course...). According to Mr. Foran, most NBA players have vertical jumps in the 28-34 " range. The highest he has ever tested was 36.5 " (a triple jumper). So I wonder what we should think of all those claims of verticals over 40 " and sometimes even 50 " (Volleyball players, Weightlifters...). Just a note. During this year's NBA Slam dunk championship, the highest recorded vertical jump was 36 " (Vince ...). And this was with a running start, of course. I would think that when attempting your best dunk, you would try and achieve as much height as possible (I certainly do...). I wouldn't know though how accurate the measuring device was. Any comments? Lepine Ottawa, Canada
