Vicki,

My last pre-op was the day before my surgery. We talked with Dr. K. about

the surgery itself, did I really want to do it and how I was feeling about

it (scared, etc.) He also reviewed all the medications I was on and told

me which ones to stop taking and which ones I'd have to continue after

surgery.

After that, we went next door to the hospital and went through the

registration process. That included drawing about eight vials of blood for

a complete pre-op baseline blood panel. After that, you are told what time

to report back the next morning, where they pull some more blood work and

do all the last minute pre-op stuff. You get to sign the final forms for

the surgery, get your legs wrapped with ace bandages, and are asked a

couple more times to confirm you really want to have the surgery.

When it's time, Dr. K. comes down and says a few words, then you are

wheeled back to a room near the O/R, where the anasthesiologist (sp?) makes

sure you're the right person, asks a few questions, including the " Are you

sure " one. That's the last thing I remember until I was waking up in

recovery about three hours later.

Hope that answers your questions.

Jerry

No need to wonder anymore...the answer is YES...a few people have

backed out at the last minute...even after getting the IV hooked

up! Some have bolted at the last minute and came back

later...others were never heard from again....lol...so yes it does

happen....but not often.

Jo

who was ready to take the scalpel in her own hands to start the

procedure if Dr. K hesitated! lol...I'm glad I didn't have too...I

somehow don't think I would have done a good a job as Dr. K.

I have to be honest - I almost said no. The IV was the only thing that kept

me there. According to Virginia (the nurse) one of the pre-op med makes you

anxious and I think that was my problem. Once they gave me the a seditive

is was fine until I woke up in my room after the surgery.

I have not regretted my decision for one minute since that. I feel better

that before the surgury.

My recovery was very uneventful. I was tired for about 5 weeks but then got

energy that hasn't stopped. I did get a small infection in a drain in the

bottom of my incision. I had one round of antibiotics and then all better.

The worst part was the diarrhea from the antibiotics for 10 days. I was

trying to get my protein in between the antibiotic and Imodium to slow the

diarrhea.

As I said I have not regretted it for a minute. I am currently bummed with

my plateau but I understand that happens when you begin to work out (I have

been working out for 2 1/2 weeks now). I know it will come though.

Good luck to you on Sept 9th!!

AAhhh, yes, the infamous happy shot.....

they had to give me a third one for my reconstructive surgery (I had

to wait so long-6hrs) or I was walking...lol

Congrats on the weight loss. Dont worry about the plateaus, they

happen.

Thanks, I feel like it was only yesterday that I was sitting in your place.

Time will go so fast and so stay patient and keep asking questions.
