BIOIDENTICAL HORMONES....A REAL JUGGLING ACT!

I have used a natural progesterone cream for years, which helped

TREMENDOUSLY in the perimenopause stage. I recently had to augment

with a natural estriol cream, due to entering actual menopause phase.

UGH! Although I consider myself well-read on health stuff, I have had

a real time with this.....passage in my life. STRONGLY recommend you

read Dr Lee's " What Your Dr Never Told You About Premenopause "

if you are in the 30-40 range, and read Dr Lee's " What Your Dr Never

Told You About Menopause " when you are in the 40-50 range or early

menopause. Dr Lee was the guru on natural progesterone cream. The

kind/brand of progesterone cream you use makes a BIG difference in

your results. You need one that is strong enough to only use a very

small quantity. I used one from AIM for most of the time. Big

results, little cost/day. If you choose to go the natural route, I

HIGHLY recommend you get periodic saliva testing to know where you

are on the hormone roller coaster before and during natural hormone

replacement. Dr Zava with ZRT Labs does a wonderful job and

collaborated with Dr Lee, previously, on books/research results. Dr

Zava will give you a good summary, with specifics, on your hormone

levels. As your body's own hormones fluctuate, your needs for

supplementation, CHANGE. The saliva tests let you know where to add,

where to subtract. It, along with your symptoms (or lack of), is

your " report card " for success in the voyage. I've fought my doctors

for years on NOT taking the pregnant mare urine hormones. It's not

been easy, but I've lived through it, with less dangerous side

effects.....SAVE THOSE UP FOR THESE BLASTED IMPLANTS, HUH?! You can

peruse Dr Lee's website for lots of info. Virginia Lee, a co-writer

of his, was very helpful to me, in the past, via email. If you go for

the natural hormones, make sure they are from a quality

manufacturer/supplier. The natural estriol was a God-send to me in

recent months. The night sweats/hot flashes, along with vaginal

dryness/atrophy, and urinary urgency were ALL driving me wild! The

estriol made an immediate difference. Estriol is the weakest form of

the 3 natural estrogens we normally have, so it's a good one to start

with when your own estrogen drops too low. It is the least dangerous

to supplement with, also. If used vaginally, it has much reduced

risks. The conventional HRT gets into your bloodstream more (via the

digestive tract) and is much more dangerous. I have not tried a

compounding pharmacist, but have interest in that.... Might have

reduced some of my trial and error over the last several years.

Bellevue Pharmacy sounds like a good one to look at (?) if

interested. He seems pro-active on working with women (and men)

struggling with hormone imbalances. Insurance will usually cover

costs, I'm told.

Ann,

Where do you get your estriol cream? I've ordered and used one from off the net, called Doctor's. It has both estriol and progesterone in it. Just wondered what brand you were using, or if it is Rx.

Ann, we sound alot alike! I say everyhthing you do, and to the "T" here when it comes to hormones. I do wonderfully at the age of 29 on Dr lee's prgram for stressed adrenals, low progesterone, and getting adequate rest, and cutting out cortisol pushers. I love both his books, and have done saliva testing now over 3 times in the last year. I am realy comin together! I am glad it helped you too! Love,
