Guest guest
It may be that your daughter had a very mild case while she was nursing and you didn't notice it. My middle daughter was exposed when she was about 5 months old, nursing full time. She had about 6 spots on her back, no other symptoms. (I had had a full-blown case of the CP when I was a child, so she got my antibodies). When she was about age 5, she spent the entire morning with a little friend who popped up with spots after lunch. I fully expected my daughter to get the CP again, but she never has. Apparently the original infection was enough to confer immunity. If your daughter has been exposed and she hasn't developed a case, she probably is immune. You can have your doc run an antibody titer to check her immunity status, but insurance may not pay for it. Thank you for the list, I think I am going to ask people who get infected to post there and refer all new inquires to the group. To the person who was confused, and to anyone else who is confused- Chicken pox is now rare because many kids are vaccinated. Chicken pox in childhood is usually a piece of cake, however it can be extremely difficult after age 12, and because it can cause serious problems with the baby of a pregnant woman, it is important for them to be immune before entering child bearing years. It can also be fatal if it is caught by someone who is immune compromised such as a person going through chemo. Also, chicken pox springs up coming out of winter, so it is very unusual to have chicken pox going around now, but we just traveled after being gone for 10 weeks in a country that just started spring and thus had an emergence of chicken pox just as we left. Guest guest
Me. I have been exposed numerous times over my life (including my own children having it) and have never had symptoms of the disease. I had the titer (I think that's what its called) when I was pregnant with my first child and it showed that I had immunity against it. The Dr. said that sometimes people just don't get symptoms. hth, Ann Marie On Nov 5, 2007, at 12:46 PM, Doug Schreifels wrote: > Has anyone experienced a child being exposed and not getting > chicken pox? Guest guest
Doug- You can see a conventional Dr. and get blood drawn to check for chicken pox immunity. We were concerned about our kids getting it because my husband is likely not immune, and the Dr offered this test to us. Guest guest
Same thing happened with me. My sister had it when she was 1-1/2 and I was only a couple months old. My mom said I had no symptons, so she never thought I had the chicken pox and I spent my entire life expecting to get them at some point. But when I got blood tests drawn when I was pregnant, it showed that I was immune. It's probably the same case with your 19 year old daughter. Guest guest
I had the exact same experience. I was the oldest and everyone assumed only my two younger siblings got it (mumps, also). When I was tested, the immunity level was " off the charts " . My doc said I must have just not shown the symptoms to have such a high immunity. I like to believe I am just really healthy (ha ha)! ~Jan > > Same thing happened with me.
