Guest guest
I wanted to know if anyone here has had any luck with scenting powders, and if so, what you used to fix the fragrance. Hi Ann, I tested 2 powders I made this week and scented them with E'O's in 1 TBS of baking soda. They've kept their scent wonderfully. LOL, After making the powder I would never buy one again I liked these so well. Blessings, Sherry
Guest guest
Are the only ingredients the EO and baking soda??? Or that you put the EO in the baking soda and then blended your powders??? How much EO did you put and how much baking soda??? And if more ingredients, what is the EO to powder ratio??? How long has it been since you blended it? Mine was great for the first couple of days, but by about one week, there was no smell left. Guest guest
I would hesitate to recommend using baking soda to hold a scent. It neutralizes odors, which is why it is used in refrigerator and carpet deodorizers. Traditionally, ingredients like benzoin gum and orris root powder have been used as scent fixatives. They hold scent well, but are notorious sensitizers....better to save them for potpourris! You could try using sandalwood powder or the addition of a small amount of fixed oil like jojoba (previously mixed with the fragrance oil) in your blend to help hold the scent, or try mixing fixatives (about 15-20% total) into the fragrance itself...additives like patchouli, sandalwood, vanilla, balsam peru, frankincense, myrrh, oakmoss and vetiver all act as fixatives by slowing the evaporation rate of the other oils. Hope this helps! Cat >^-.-^< > Are the only ingredients the EO and baking soda??? Guest guest
I have used orris root and it still doesn't seem to be doing the trick. I will try the Jojoba oil and see if that makes any difference. Thank you for the suggestions. Ann McNally 3 Angel Creations http://www.naturesgifts.net " Cat >^-.-^< " wrote: > I would hesitate to recommend using baking soda to hold a scent. Guest guest
I used 1 Tbs of the baking soda to 2 cups of a mixture of arrowroot, rose and lavender and the scent has held well. Sandalwood powder sounds awesome though. I'm going to try that next time Sherry

Guest guest
Where may one obtain such sandalwood powder?? Methinks it may be of use to oneself and would no doubt smell way cool!! Guest guest
There are some wonderful products and recipes for powders at Snowdrift Farms. I have made both their body powder and their liquid talc. Love them both! Guest guest
I hate to sound naïve here but what is liquid talc? How does it work? Liquid powder sounds strange to me. Is it still absorbent? Thanks, Sherry There are some wonderful products and recipes for powders at Snowdrift Farms. I have made both their body powder and their liquid talc. Love them both!
