Overall success of lap band procedure

What is the overall success rate of the lap band procedure? I have a patient who is 5'4" and 320 pounds. The doctor will not write a script for her to have the roux-en-y as he does "not believe in it" but will write a script for a lap band. This person carries the majority of weight in her stomach, which is hard as a rock, making her look 10 months pregnant. What do you think the success rate will be for a person of her stature and her condition? I, too am interested in the Medicare requirements as that is the insurance she carries along with medicaid. KathyNormally success varies it is about 30% EWL at 6 months, 40% at 1 year and 50-55% 2 years post.
