Guest guest
What is the overall success rate of the lap band procedure? I have a patient who is 5'4" and 320 pounds. The doctor will not write a script for her to have the roux-en-y as he does "not believe in it" but will write a script for a lap band. This person carries the majority of weight in her stomach, which is hard as a rock, making her look 10 months pregnant. What do you think the success rate will be for a person of her stature and her condition? I, too am interested in the Medicare requirements as that is the insurance she carries along with medicaid. What are the new weight loss requirements for medicare patients pre-op?Kathy J. Shattler, M.S.,RD Director, Nutrition and Dietitians Division Http://www.ceu4u.com kshattler@... Guest guest
KathyNormally success varies it is about 30% EWL at 6 months, 40% at 1 year and 50-55% 2 years post. If she is 200# over her ideal (or 200# of excess weight than she would lose about 100# total post op depending on compliance making that 215-220 after 2 years)Hope this helps McCarthy, M.S., R.D., L.D.N.Registered Dietitian Center for Lap-Band Surgery Mercy Hospital2525 S Michigan Ave, Chicago, IL office: 312-567-8793 cell: 773-307-3160 mccarthy112781@...
